    Nighthawk GRP Recon

I have a Kimber Warrior II and it's a nice piece, but i recently got to hold a grp recon and it seems to feel much more solid. is it just too much thinking in my head or is the grp worth the 1k premium over the warrior?

          it's worth it!!

while you are at it, try other ones if you can: Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Dan Wesson, Ed Brown, Guncrafter Industries. They're all roughly around the same price range.

If you modify a basic 1911 to become one of these, you will actually spend $1k more than the ones mentioned. So why not get one? To me, it's worth every penny.

Just....... don't get one of each....... you'll get everyone jealous

I love my Nighthawk GRP. I will never sell it.

I have a GRP Recon and I'd say that it's mostly worth it. Not quite as enthusiastic as the others in this thread though. You start to run into diminishing returns when you get past the mid-line Kimbers (and others in that price range).

Without a doubt that will be my next 1911 I would look into the Black Diamond coating they have it adds about 300 to the cost but apparently you can't f*** it up. Scottsdale gun club rents them out and some have around 50k rounds through them with no reported malfunctions. Here's a good review about the GRP.

by David Crane david@defensereview.com January 6, 2006 Anyone who knows anything about the custom/semi-custom tactical 1911 pistol field knows how hugely competitive it is out there. That's one of the reasons why the Phoenix-like rise of Nighthawk Custom over approx. the last year and half is so intriguing. Considering the speed and surprise Nighthawk Custom has exhibited in establishing its presence in the market, it's only appropriate that the company's hawk-and-moon logo emulates the F-117A attack aircraft pilot's patch. The specific models that DefenseReview is most interested in are the Nighthawk GRP (no rail) and GRP Recon (MIL-STD-1913 rail) pistols. "GRP" stands for "Global Response Pistol". These are purpose-built, no-nonsense .45-caliber (.45 ACP) Governnment model (5" barrel) tactical/carry guns (1911 pistols) designed primarily for military Special Operations (SPECOPS) Direct Action missions involving CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close …

sounds like the general consensus from what i've read online. maybe it's the fact that nighthawk claims to not use any mim parts, or the lack of a passive firing pin safety. maybe if i had a non series II kimber i would feel differently about the subject.

on the other hand, i do love my rock island

I was just fondling a GRP Recon today and really, REALLY loved the feel. I wish I could have shot it, but it has a very nice fit and finish that just screams quality.

The full length dust cover rail makes a world of difference in the "when I run out of bullets I'm going to beat you to death with the pistol" look that causes bad guys to run in fear, and lesser men to feel inadequate. It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!
