I'm concerned about being able to use a fingernail to go through it. Bluing was never meant to be very tough, but I never though of it as being that delicate...you have to remember that bluing isn't a coating that is added to the metal, it is a controlled rusting process
    Here,

Personally, I think your just being a big baby about it. Guns are tools and meant to be used. Wear marks show character and prove that you actually use it, rather than keeping it in your safe and only bringing it out when your surf the forums. Like others have said, if it bothers you so much just refinish it.

Did you buy the pistol to shoot or just to have a play pretty?

are you talking about the sharp edge?...that's normal. it is likely from whatever you are storing it or carrying it in. it isn't from cleaning or handling it

Thanks for the beer on the keyboard.

You'll have to understand this is calguns.net, not the Fort Worth gunshow at Amon Carter.

A camera store, optician (maybe), a well-stocked gun store.

An alternative...send it back to Colt for re-bluing and lock it up in the safe.

Bought one online already. The gun shops near me are never well stocked with cleaning supplies.

I was awaiting these types of comments. Hmm you're from Texas, the same place where the gold platted and engraved 1911's come from?

Don't get the wrong impression. I shoot the **** out of all my guns, I want to protect the blueing on this gun how does this make me a big baby? I'm not liking these delicate guns that's all.

RedCliff, thanks for your help and tips.

Blueing is not a durable finish. You should go with one of the coatings suggested above if you want something that will last.

That is a lovely pistol. I wouldn't worry about it, but at the same time, you need to be careful about the finish. I use MPro-7 cleaner, and it's never affected the finish. +1 to silicon rags.

Enjoy the Colt, be careful with it, but don't worry so much you deprive yourself of the joy of shooting it. After all, it was made to shoot.
