    Question about locks and guns

Ok I have a question, I just did a ppt yesterday at Grant Boys in costa Mesa. One of the counter guys, pretty sure it was a manager said that the ca DOJ approved lock that came with my gun for the ppt was not eligible because i didn't have the original receipt for it. In the bag the lock came it it has the paper saying it is a Ca DOJ approved lock. Does this meet the legal requirements or so I have to buy a lock from Grant Boys like they say i have to? Btw when I had my XD shipped in last October I am pretty sure it came with the XD brand lock from the Factory yet I believe they took it out just so i would buy a lock from them. Is what they are doing legal and correct?

On the day of your 10-11th day: go to Walmart buy a cheap lock keep receipt, show it to Grant Boys, get your gun and return the lock to Walmart for your money back.

My understanding is that they want the receipt to show you bought it recently for the firearm you're purchasing... not just removing it from a gun in your collection.

Its not a huge deal about buying the lock and returning it, just wondering if what they are doing it right or wrong. If I had a code that I could cite to them that would be awesome.

I only use them for PPT's if it benefits me, for ship in's and what not I have a new FFL I use. Grant Boys is like 3 miles from my house so it is convenient.

Find a friend that is willing to sell an extra lock to you for $1. Make sure he prints and signs the receipt for the lock.

When you are done, you can give him the lock back and he can buy you a soda. It's all good.

I think if you have a safe you do not need a lock, true? Just sign the safe affidavit.

Just have the seller make you a receipt for the gun and the lock. When i do a PPT and a CA lock is included I just add that to the receipt I give to the buyer with his copy of the DROS. That is now his receipt. Please do not blame a FFL for making you buy a lock from them if one is not provided as $10 PPT fee doesn't pay for anything close the amount of time it takes and teh printing costs.

The safe affadavit only satisfies the California laws, the lock is for Federal law. Note: a receipt is not required for the lock.

It may not sound legal but it is. A FFL has to make a copy of the receipt as proof the buyer has a approved lock and the receipt must be dated within 30 days of the purchase. This is not the fault of the FFL but there is no definition of a receipt other then for purchase and I consider purchasing a lock from another person to be a sale. So if you buy a gun and the seller gives you a lock have them make you a receipt for the gun AND the lock. This shows a transfer of ownership to me.
