I hope so. Have one in the safe in 223/44. Very fun to shoot. Barrels run around $200. 17 different cal. and shot gun too. Thought about adding the rifle parts. Will tag this for a more expert answers.

they are legal, but need to be purchased as a complete pistol, with a 6+" barrel. Frame-only purchases are not roster-exempt. And no .45LC/410 pistol barrels, that would be an illegal SBS.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

You forgot to add that if you make it into a rifle, it's technically supposed to stay a rifle.

And if you make a rifle into a pistol...you've just made an SBR and are in trouble. (unless you bought one of the "combo" kits, in which case you're OK... hard to find though).

Summary. Yes they're legal. Can only be bought as a complete pistol. NO SHOTGUN BARRELS FOR THE PISTOL. Keep your pistol a pistol untill the law catches up with common sense. Don't get the rifle parts if you don't have a rifle frame. (possibility for constructive posession of SBR nonsense)

Now... you will run into a TON of FUD from a great many dealers/gunshop counter jockeys/FFLs and others. They will insist until the bitter end that they are illegal, and just like any other kind of FUD, it's nearly impossible to convince them otherwise. Just hunt around until you find someone who isn't willfully ignorant, and will order it for you.

i'd suggest getting a blued frame/barrel with the hardened rubber grips if you're going rifle cal. or if you're hunting with it. I think they sell it as a hunter's package with a 22-250 barrel and a pre-installed scope.

From my understanding if you bought it as a pistol, you can convert it to a rifle and vice versa. The key is it needs to be registered as a pistol.
