    Springfield Armory EMP take-down question

    Hi guys...

I tried searching and didn't want to have to start a new thread for this but couldn't find the answer, so I was contemplating getting one of these in 9mm.

My question is do you absolutely need that special tool to disassemble the gun? And if there's a way to do it without it, then how? is it that difficult? All the handguns I've owned can be taken down for basic cleaning just using your hands.

My understanding is that you don't need the tool but it makes it much more difficult to do the rear slide glock like hold to line it up just right to take the slide stop pin out and especially lining it up to put it back in.

All the tool does is take the tension off the spring so you can align the slide with the frame more easily.

Cool gun btw. what caliber you got and how you like it?

^ ha I'm looking to get one... probably gonna go with 9mm... I have a bunch of 9s already, and will stick with one caliber for a while... till I get rich! haha

Ok.. I see, so all the tool does is make it 'easier' to hold the slide in the correct position to pull out the takedown pin... got it, but not necessary.

gotta wait till my 30 days is up before i DROS another handgun though... D'OH!

      Thanks

OH.. and does anyone have any experience with one?? How are they?

It's a fun gun to shoot. However mine tend to have FTE and FTF issues if it got a bit too dirty.
