i have a family relative who works for a local PD.

same city he works for, has this store that he calls the "candy store" that sits in the middle of a industrial area.

no signs saying guns or stuff.

but he doesnt call it the 'candy store" for nothing. i remember him taking me there there just as i got my first sig and it was post 2000.

he was buying mags for him. 15 rounders.

10 rounders for me. cause he's friends with the owners, the owners allows him to run around the "back" area where normal folks stand in the front.

as he was paying for the mags, the owners just casually asks him, "these are for you, right? (meaning the 15 rounders)"...

We ship magazines above 10 round to LE. You just have to email us a copy of your ID/Credentials.

This is what I immediately thought when I read his posts last night. Then when somebody asked if he's LE, he stopped posting.

Either way, if you are LE, why not just as your co-workers where they get their mags at. Or ask them where are some good LE stores in your area, as they would also carry or can order mags for you. It's really not that hard.

same feeling. maybe just curiosity from a young buck. but if he was LE i have a feeling he would just ask another officer where they got theirs.

From my experience, most gun stores have an LEO only display, or guns marked as such. That would lead me to believe they sell magazines over 10 rounds.
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

I'm not LE at all but I have a friend tryin to get into the academy and we had a talk about his ability to get Hi-Caps
which is why i first asked if they were legal because he thought they werent, and I didn't want to mislead him.
2nd because I'm LE I obviously don't know where to go hence the thread.

and read the original post, when referring to LE i always used "them" or "they" or "you" not I or me or my.
I probably should've given more background in the OP but figured it was a simple enough question I'd a get a quick simple answer.

But not meaning to be hostile and thank you to those have given straight forward answers its appreciated

If you are not LE and neither is your friend, you won't find a shop or person in Ca who can legally sell them to either of you. The fact is that most gun shops in Ca have "hi-cap mag permits" and can sell +10 round mags to LEOs. Just because YOU don't see them displayed or there aren't any in stock doesn't mean that it's not easy for a LEO to get them.

Yeah I dig that, and I don't doubt that LE can get them, I was trying to find out where they get them, turns out they have em every where you just have to ask. Seeing as how I am not LE and I know I cant get them I have never asked and didn't know that. Now I know that. Next time I see said friend I will say
"Hey man I posted the question on the forums turned out you can get mags that hold more than 10 and I guess you just go into a gun store and ask for em and they all have them in the back or something like that."
"Yeah and BTW remember I said you have to probably register or something like that, no I was wrong you just show em your badge and ID and it's a done deal, yup pretty sweet set-up"
                      Problem solved : )
