Question about DROS'ing a replacement receiver.

Hello all. I was wondering if I had a pistol receiver that needed to be replaced and the replacement had a different serial number than the original, would I need to DROS it again? If so, what type of transfer is it? A brand new transfer with the 1 in 30 day rule in effect or is it considered something like a private party transfer. Will I have to wait 10 days again, even though it is replacing a pistol I already own? Will I get charged sales tax again?

If your repair calls for a new receiver with a new serial number calls for a 100% brand new transfer. Dealer transfer, 1:30 rule, all that applies. Pretend you're shipping in a brand new gun.

It sucks, but that's the process.

Thanks for the quick reply. How long do I have to DROS the new receiver after I receive it?

umm, it gets DROSed to you before you receive it. YOur FFL will be holding it for 10-days before he can give it to you. In addiition, the Roster applies, so if it is an off-roster handgun, you can't DROS it.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

But what if the manufacturer send the gun back to me instead of to an FFL since it was a repair?

Then the manufacturer screwed up big time because they can only return the firearm you own, not a new firearm (replacement frame). The frame must go direct from the factory to your FFL, who will DROS it to you.
