I quail hunt down by the border and am considering open carrying a sidearm. Seems a wheel gun is in order.

Buy a .357 mag and load it with .38 Specials.
Ruger GP100 or S&W 686 are my first choices.
Since you are Open carrying, get something full size. It is a lot easier to shoot.

If you are wanting to carry because of two legged coyotes or mafia types them you might want something with a little more capacity. Remember, they will have guns too and wont be afraid to use them. Can't beat a Glock.What do you mean my birth certificate expired?Comment

Full size S&W, Ruger or Colt. Go with a .357, then you have the choice to use the hotter loades if you want/need to.Comment

Smith and Wesson Nightguard series. Model 327 would be my pick. Large frame without the weight or being too big. Holds 8 rounds of .357 Mag. A little spendy compared with the Rugers though.Last edited by sker13; 10-28-2010, 12:49 PM.Comment

GP100 or a 686, always buy a .357 if your considering .38sp, you can still use .38sp but you have the option of the bigger load.Yes, I am an electrical engineer.

SW 686 or 629 in 4" barrels sound about right.
Glock 20 sounds like an interesting alternative.Comment

Down south along the border I would carry a Glock 20. And perhaps a Mini 14 in all-up-ready-to-go-form. (Ghost ring, 20 rounders, sling, tuned and ready)May the Bridges I burn light the way.

Why a wheelgun? Do you mean Unloaded Open Carry? If that's the case I personally would rather slam a mag in than try to use a speedloader in a hurry.
