Question on Roster of Handguns Certified IN CA

I have a question I have a new 629-6 2.5 Stainless Perf. Center coming to my FFL. I contacted Smith & Wesson factory before I bought it to make sure it was CA legal as the Roster just says 629-6 2.5" Stainless. Smith & Wesson factory got back to me and said that it should be CA compliant no problem. Someone I work with said that it would have to say Perf Center on the roster and the factory is wrong. I don't see S&W giving false information on their product, especially when the note they sent me back had the model and the SKU# on it referenced. So after their answer I bought the gun (out of state dealer), and it is on its way to my FFL, the place I bought it from also checks the CA list. I see a lot of guns on the list that just has model & finish with no detail. And the 2.5" in the one I am getting is the only one offered from the factory in that caliber. I think if the factory says to a customer that it is compliant, they would know. I have a copy of my email from them for my FFL, as this know-it-all says that it has to list the Perf Center on the roster. I tried to tell him that my 627 Perf Center did not say anything about Perf Center. Any replies would be appreciated, I really don't see S&W putting out the wrong information.

If your FFL doesn't think it's on the roster he won't process it. Find another FFL who thinks it's OK, or you'll have to send it back, at your expense no doubt. I have read about a number of these "gray area" pistols on/not on the roster.

I have a copy of the reply from Smith & Wesson saying it is CA Compliant I will take to my FFL whan I go to start the 10 day. It does say 629-6 Stainless 2.5" and the one coming is just that!
