I just conducted a ppt and a few things the guy said and did raised some red flags with me and just thought I would get some educated answers from the people here.

He said he would pay me but wanted to do a ppt with a guy closer to him but didnt mention this in any messages. So then he said I could loan him the gun and he could do it later? That doesn't sound right at all because I would need to be there to do the ppt right?

Second thing was he brought an lock but they said he had to buy one. He said that they had to show him exactly where they had that and basically argued with them for forty five minutes.

Just overall was a very uncomfortable experience and seemed as though the guy had a bit of an attitude but just didn't rub me the right way.

don't EVER loan a firearm to anyone unknown to you. Personally I don't loan firearms to anyone...period...unless I'm at the range with them and they just want to plink a couple rounds. If he meant "loan" through an FFL, that doesn't make a whole lot of sense cuz he has to wait the ten days anyway. As far as the arguing...that's his deal...he can argue till he's blue in the face...the FFL doesn't have to "show" him anything...in any event, do you really want to piss off the people your trying to buy service from? If he doesn't want to purchase a lock, he can go somewhere else where they will accept his lock. End of story.

Yeah I wasn going to loan it to him though I know I could. I was just wondering if that was legal for me to loan it and then have him transfer it?

I also didnt want to have to go someplace else so if he couldn't seal the deal at the ffl I was gonna leave him high an dry. Also helped having the money in my pocket.

You may only loan handguns to persons "known" to you...what the threshold is for "knowing" someone is something I wouldn't want to have to establish to a judge. Doing a PPT is basic...I really don't care who has the gun in their possession when it gets to the counter...as long as owner and buyer are present when doing the transfer.

How about the thing with the lock? He brought his own an xd lock but they wouldn't accept it since it was a c&r gun obviously not an xd.

Wow! sorry you had a bad experience. I have done many PPTs with no problems. In fact I have made a few friends that way. Personally I would never let my gun out of my sight until the transfer was complete. Be careful, and get to know the guy a little via email or phone. Then meet them at a gun store. I would rather keep my gun than to sell it to some jerk who is going to argue over a ten dollar lock. Some gun store except safe affidavits for pistols and other don't you just have to go along with the store policy.

They don't have to accept his lock...Technically it must be a CA approved lock for that model of handgun...Some FFL's don't care...some FFL's just want you to purchase a lock from them...it is what it is...he can quote laws all day long...but in the end it's up to them.

Yeah I never let my gun out of my sight and I made sure the ppt was completed to the satisfaction of the ffl. The ffl seemed like a nice enough person though I don't know if I should say where this went down. I met the guy through this site well it's the guys brother apparently. The ffl was really professional and eventually got everything explained to the guy. Just was wondering if what this guy was saying held any water. He was quoting this site here about the ffl not being able to deny ppt

Should I bother to inform the calguns member on here about the way his brother acted? Not sure whats the right thing to do here. On the one hand I feel this needs to be addressed and on the other I don't want to be a tattle tail.

The deal was done legally and you got paid, let it go and move on. No reason to stir the pot at this point. No good can come of it.

Fair enough Ed I guess that's the reasonable thing to do.
