    M&P barrel question

I made the mistake of buying a used M&P on Gun Broker.

When I received the gun everything looked great. However upon closer inspection of the barrel, I noticed that there were small pits all around the outside of the barrel near the chamber. The dealer said he didn't noticed the barrel himself but said that the pitting could be the result of extreme corrosion that was eventually wiped clean which left pits as a result.

I'm thinking, if the slide is stainless why would the barrel be not stainless? I checked the S&W site and it said the M&P has a stainless barrel and slide. So if the barrel is stainless how could it corrode in the first place?

Did I get a gun with a non-factory barrel? Even if so, who makes low grade replacement barrels for M&Ps anyways?

I have a Sigma which has about 500rnds and I don't clean it often at all. In fact I often leave it dirty and there are no pits what so ever on the barrel at all. I really don't understand how a barrel could be this way on any major name gun.

Assuming that the barrel is factory, I emailed S&W on this and they haven't replied. Does the lifetime warranty apply to second hand owners?

Can you post a pic of the barrel and pitting?

The lifetime warranty applies to the original owner; however, S&W has been known to take care of defects regardless. If you don't volunteer the info that you were no the original owner, S&W wouldn't know unless the warranty info was sent in by any previous owners.

just for clarity, stainless steel will rust...it is just more rust resistant than high carbon steel

Or it could be a finish blemish. If it's on the outside and concealed by the slide I wouldn't fuss about it.
