    FMK Firearms

I had a tour of the FMK (For My Kountry) Firearms in Orange County company yesterday. I have toured many major firearms and ammunition companies in the past and watched their manufacturing process as a part of my job assignment.

FMK is a small operation in a size of a small warehouse. The pistol is similar to cross breed between Glock and Sig P250 in concept. They said they can produce about 500 pistols a month, but the company is looking foward to expanding to 2,000 a month. What I was impressed about was the passion of the company president Jim. He was a injection plastic molding/ die maker who "accidentally" got involved in the firearms manufaturing business. However, his knowledge and enthusiasm on firearms were admirable.

He only has a few machines to manufacture the guns, but hopes to expand. What is impressive is that he makes all the components at his shop. The frames, slides and other plastic parts are made at the location as he is producing injection molding. Some small parts and finish are outsourced, but vast majority of the parts including barrels are made on site. Thus, he doesn't have to rely on contractors.

He is about the only firearms manufacturer in California, and his pistols are one of only 3 pistols submitted and passed California safety test since 2006, I believe.

Initial impression on his pistols was good. It felt good in the hands, and overall fit was very good. He has Bill of Rights and some other interesting things laser engraved on the slide. He said he will make pistols with and without the engravings at the dealers request.

He is currently working on Gen 2 pistols with improvements from Gen 1. The pistol comes with several interchangeable sight blades for front and rear sights. He said he received many feedbacks from the shooters and try to improve his product. Gen 2 pistols looked good as well.

I haven't got an opportunity to shoot the pistol yet. However, he promised to send one to my office for a test. I am anxious to try one myself. I am thinking about buying one to support a California business and gun people. I will post the product review when I get a chance to shoot it.

I just wanted to let people know that there is a decent gun that was manufactured in good old state of California.

Any plans to reduce the trigger pull by at least 60%? IIRC the original shipped with a 12+ lb trigger. He should really make all that "interesting stuff" on request, and have the blank slide as standard instead of the other way around too.

I would be interested in guns without the engravings. Not that I don't believe in the BoR, I just don't know about having it printed on a gun's slide. Anyway, there was a post regarding the reliability of the gun so what was the qa presence there? What kind of R&D are they capable of?

Lastly Kaiser Defense is also a CA firearms manufacturer.

I would buy one if it only had the 2nd Amendment engraved on it.

Don't forget JD machine! Great san diego company.
Id like to try this pistol out, if they can lighten up the trigger and hold off on the engraving.

The Gen 2 pistols have better trigger than Gen 1's for sure. The slides will come both ways. Right now, they are experimenting with concept of machining before heat treating and heat treating after machining parts. One thing I can say is that they are always experimenting and trying to improve their products.
