    Keyhole?

I keep seeing this word get tossed around here and there.

    Last time I heard was when I reading a post discussing a S&W 360 at a range.

Can anyone tell me what "keyhole" means?

I tried googling but I got whole bunch of answers that are weird and defintely, not gun related.

    Thanks!

bullet impacts the target with the side instead of the tip, which made the "keyhole" on the target

Usually means the bullet looses stability, and starts tumbling. Often they go through the paper target sideways making a slot instead of a round hole. Long, skinny rifle bullets make more pronounced slots. Thus a "keyhole."

I thought when you "keyhole" your last shoot you shoot almost on top of the first round that was fired making the hole slightly larger... maybe the military has its own definition???

Wrong.....it means the bullet has lost stability and is tumbling.

Previous posts told You. I will show you. I purchased an enfield about a year ago from a calgunner. He described it as a very accurate rifle in great shape. Sadly, I rated him +1 on Itrader before I had the chance to fire it.

I shot at about 75-100 yrds. This was the first time I brought it out a couple weeks after I bought it. After wards he claimed I must have somehow damaged it. Then he recanted and offered to work out a deal for reimbursement. He never responded back after that. Luckily I was able to trade this to another calgunner who planned on re-chambering it and replacing the barrel. I got a great deal. so, all and all I learned an important lesson. There are a few crooks on here to be on the look out for, but overall all my transactions have been great and I love Calguns!!!!
