Looking at the XD9 and XD357 (XD9103). Question?

I was looking at the guns listed in the title. Selling my .40 as wife thinks its a bit much when she shot it. So, first thought was a 9mm. Springfield XD9. But, then I found out it comes in a .357 also.

I could run .38 in it? I assume it has to be a .38 special? Which is cheap to buy I see $.28 a shot for .38 special vs $.45 a round on the .357 round. So, I could have a lighter recoil a on the .38 and home defense on the .357? How is the recoil on the .38 special compared to 9mm?

    Thanks

just kidding i spoke too soon. I still would hesitate to say you could run both. the cartridges are different lengths and would probably cause problems in an autoloader.

The xd357 is .357 sig not .357 magnum.the 357 sig is a necked down .40 s&w cartidge.so no you cant shoot .38 spcecial out of it.Some .40 caliber pistols can be converted to fire .357 sig very easily.

Just called Turners as you were posting. They also said the same. He also said the .357 probably is worse than the .40 I have. So, the XD9 is it at the momment.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

            Another consideration is obtaining ammunition.
357 Sig is not as widely available and is considerably more expensive.

                  Its a 357 sig, I thought it was a 357 mag.

That's what I want to hear! Do you like to shoot it as well?

why not get a conversion barrel for your xd-40 They can be found for under $100 these days and you'd have a gun that serves double duty. I have an XD-357sig, and no it can't fire .38 special rounds, plus the .357 sig is the snappiest round I have ever shot. If your wife didn't like the .40 S&W she won't like the .357sig at all. I have conversion barrels for the 9mm and .40 so it's like 3 guns in one.

I have the Sigma .40 nor the XD40.

I have the Sigma for sale $340 (holster, mags, ammo). Well see if it sells.

Get the XD9 and be happy with your purchase. I like the 357SIG caliber, but it is an expensive round to shoot. I shoot 357SIG better than 40SW (at least in a P226).
