    Glock Compensator

I notice that certian models have the compensator. What exactly is it and why is it good to have it?

Whats up buddy. The (c) models are the compensated ones. They have small slots in the top of the barrel and slide which the gases and crap come flying through with helps with recoil for quicker follow up shots. I would look to purchase the (c) models if you are going to compete......but if your just shooting paper i wouldnt worry about plus reg models are a tad cheaper

So if i were to fire 10 rounds quickly with a regular glock 19, I won't be able to do it due to the smoke and crap coming out?

I know some range restrict double shots and that you should pulse between shots. I wonder why they won't let you fire rapidly.

^safety reasons and concerns. I could picture an individual trying to rapid fire and lose control of his firearm. A bullet could strike the person next to him easily. Another I could think of is that those who shouldn't be having guns in the first place. The ones rapid firing at someone (IE: doing a drive by, intending to kill people quickly, etc).

If you plan to use your G19 for home defense or duty, be glad you didn't get the C model. Last thing you want is crap coming out of that port onto your eye.

Next time you're at an indoor range just look around your booth and up at the ceiling. That's why most ranges won't let people they don't know rapid fire.

Yes, the gasses expelled through the ports will counter the muzzle rise, helping to lessen felt recoil.

I've only been to outdoor ranges near me. I'll have to find an indoor one.

By the way, are laser's legal in california? I like the red laser, but heard that lights are legal but not lasers.

to answer a few. say you have a buddy who has land....you could go rapid fire all you like. And as far as the (C) models there nice but really that that much different. Because the slots are right behind the front sight ive heard that it blacks it out. if your looking to go compensated get an AM match grade barrel with compensater that extends out the front. with that said i do not own a C model and have no problem with follow up shots. where your really going to fell a difference is when firing 45acp.

had G17 compensated. no difference in recoil on 9mm, more cleaning.
                      some loss in velocity.
I would understand it on high recoil calibers.

Ya i have actually heard stories of this happening and there are self defense shooting techniques that put the gun right at your side in between your hip and the bottom of the rib cage. I heard a story one time while doing some reading about a shirt catching on fire haha. that wouldnt be cool

I've put more rounds down G17's and G17C's that the guns I currently own. After numerous rounds side by side, the compensated model felt a little different than the G17. Not saying I noticed a real difference in recoil, just the gun felt different. The comp helps out when you are shooting higher powered/caliber rounds. Just the nature of the beast.

Shooting with the gun below your face will give you a blast to the face which is no good, especially in an HD situation. Also louder and a slight loss in velocity due to the ports. They do get dirty quicker, but I've never had the "front sight completely covered in carbon" as many people often state. Maybe WWB and the reloads I shoot just aren't dirty ammo. That and after a hundred or several hundred rounds, I just wipe the front sight off with my thumb.

Basically in a HD environment, you're better off without the compensator, but if that's what you want then by all means go for it!

They are not compensated, they are ported, big difference.
