Spare Kimber magazines.......

I'm picking up a Kimber TLE Rail II 1911 on Saturday. I want to buy some spare magazines for it.

Can anyone recommend an online vendor that has good deals on spare mags?

Are all kimber mags universal? In other words will any kimber 1911 mag fit my TLE Rail II?

Wilson Combat makes decent 1911 mags

I found the Kim-Pro Tac mags run flawless in my TLE/RL II. I've put 300 rounds through it using the 4 mags I have and they were 100% so far. The Armory sells the Kim-Pro Tac mags for $15 -$18 each.

Wilson makes good mags but they're expensive. I have problems with the CMC Power + 10rd mags.

The whole 1911 magazine debate is painful. I'm trying to stock up on them now and trying to decide what to buy. They vary in price from $10 to about $40. Even amongst each brand there are different choices. You'd think that things would be simple but apparently they're not. Wilson, McCormick, Tripp, Checkmate, GI, whatever.

In the bit of research I have done, the vast majority of people will recommend Wilson 47D magazines. Some say that other brands and models work just as well for less. McCormick (CMC) comes up often as an alternative. Then many say that what brand and model of magazine is considered best depends on your particular 1911. People report issues with certain magazines while others swear by that same magazine. Then there's even difference in blued versus stainless magazines. Follower design is another area that is discussed. Oh and supposedly certain magazines with certain followers can damage alloy framed 1911s. Throw in 7 rounders versus 8 round magazines. Jeesh!

I wish is was as simple as buying Magpul AR mags for whatever AR you're shooting.

I like CMC Shooting Stars. Some people might laugh, but when I first got my Baer I was too impatient to order extra mags online and stopped by a local gunshow instead. I was able to pick them up for $15/each which is pretty much the going rate. I haven't had any problems with the Shooting Stars in any of the three 1911s I owned -- Kimber Custom II, Les Baer Concept II, and a Springfield Custom Carry. They're not Powermags or 47Ds, but they work.

I too agree with everyone here about the great Wilson's, Chip's and NOT surprising, my old Colt standard capacity 1911 magazines. Those have worked for me for decades being completely loaded (compressed springs) when I got them from my dad who had them loaded up since the...... 60's!

Yes, any 1911 mag will fit, including those from Kimber.

A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a few Metalform mags from TSA knives for my Kimber. Since then, each magazine has cycled about 200 rounds each with no issues.

I think I got my Chip McCormick Shooting Stars from Midway usa for $14 a piece and there ok for me and my Custom II so far.
