M&P 9mm or .45?

Hello eveyone. Looking to buy my first handgun. Since the magazine capacity is the same on both I'm not sure which one to go with. I did shoot the M&P 40 at the local gun range and liked it other than it did feel somewhat snappier than the other .40 cal I've shot. Any advice is welcome.

If this is your first handgun, go with M&P9.... cheaper for your wallet and easier to shoot. It is all about SHOT PLACEMENT.

Definitely 9mm for a first time shooter, ballistics are close and it's much cheaper to shoot a lot of.

9mm. I see it as the most versatile round. Its cheap (relatively speaking) so you can get plenty of practice. Also with modern ammo technology, 9mm is more than enough of a great self defense caliber in a handgun.

I selected my first handgun in 9mm caliber due to the fact that I am more accurate with it opposed to .40 and .45. It is my duty weapon. Hitting the intended target is a higher priority for me.

There is no magic bullet so 9mm +P boned JHP or 40cal or 45acp will all sere you well if you shoot them well and train with your gun to a competent level under stress.

If you are limited to 10 rounds I'd go with the largest caliber you can shoot accurately. If its a defensive gun then dont worry about snappiness or trigger feel...because when you are fighting for your life none of that will be noticed. Only rounds on target will count.

Just pick a caliber you are attracted to and teach yourself to shoot it alot. 9mm is about $11 in my area. 40cal is only $2 more than 9mm but 45acp is almost $5 to $10 dollars more than 40cal. That being said...get the caliber you can afford to shoot alot.

I have a G26 (9mm) as my CCW everyday carry gun and a 40 cal S&W M&P40 as my full size carry/home defense gun.

I bought the .40 and wish I had the 9. or I wish i had another one in 9 :-). It was also my first hg.

For a .40 next time, i will likely get a cz.

I have both the 9mm and the .45ACP. Normally, I'm more of a 9mm fan as I own them 2:1 over .45 but in this case I prefer the M&P in the bigger caliber. I just like the shooting dynamics of the .45 in this particular gun and can't really explain why. Both are keepers though.

I have both, the wife stole the .9 so I get to use the .45 more

Ergonomics are similar, it really boils down to what caliber you want. Both have north of 20K rounds without issues.
