For a brand new current production Beretta in 9mm within the California handgun roster as of now:

        92FS (made in Italy)
        92FS Inox (stainless)
        M9 (commerical)
        M9A1 (rail)
        Px4 Storm (fullsize)

I went with the plain vanilla 92FS, and very happy with it.

I just bought a PX4 Storm and love it. Love the 92 also but we already have one in my family so I get to shoot it enough. If you have any deeper questions feel free to PM me especially about the Storm.

i like the m9a1's. I would recommend against the PX4 because that thumb safety on that model is [for whatever reason] really hard to grab onto, and when you do grab onto it well, it takes a significant amount of force to flip the safety off.

My gripe with the 92 is that it's easy to engage the safety - inadvertantly - when you rack the gun. Grabbing that slide quickly during a malfunction drill has caused me to put the gun into safety.

I've only shot the PX4 once and it was a while back. I did prefer the placement of the safety better (but would still like it frame mounted) but I can't recall it if was a significant effort to engage/disengage.

But the 92 is sexier. Big to grip, heavy and the safety, but it is sexy.

i just bought a 92 elite II for that safety reason and others
there is no safety it just a decocker.
but they are out of production and falling off of the list soon.

To each their own but I personally don't think the safety is hard to flip. I can do it with a flick of my thumb while drawing it. I could have just broken it in really well though. In my opinion I would rather have bought the 92 but money was a bit tighter and it's also a gun that my wife shoots so she was more comfortable with the PX4. Go to the range and try them both out and buy what feels good for you.

92FS Inox (all stainless..) or it didn't happen.

90-Two.. 92A1... Got any out of state parents?

Seriously though, your choices are 92FS/M9A1/PX4. M9A1 has a 92FS upper, and a rail. Sometimes Turners sells M9A1's for $650.
Most blued/bruniton 92FS's seem to be in the $600 range.. ouch.... Inox add $100 or so. (Crap - missed Gunter's post - he said the same thing).

Agreed, with practice you can disengage the safety with your shooting hand (thumb) and I don't even think about it. Loved it when I was in the Marines and I really love it now that I'm out. Great guns.
Fallujah had become a magnet for foreign jihadists and there were several thousand in the city who had come to make martyrs of themselves, to die while killing as many Americans as possibleAt each house I said a prayer, 'Please God get me out of this one.' When I come out of the house, I thank Him, light up a cigarette and move on to the next onesigpic

I am a Sig and Glock guy. I had to buy a 92FS just because I had to. Thats just the way it is, I tell ya.

                              92FS

My made in Italy 92FS (about a decade and a half old) is the most accurate long shooting 9mm I own.

Just make sure you keep the locking block, plunger and slide rails clean and lightly lubed and you will enjoy decades of flawless operation.
