what would i be better off doing?

i really want to get my self a target pistol other then a .22. i have about an 800 dollar budget, and i want something accurate. i was thinking of getting an dan wesson 1911, becasue they have a great accuracy reputation, but then someone offered to sell me some guns. basically i can get a Smith and wesson 686 "4, and a cz75 or browning hi-power, but 850. I konw the 686 will easilly rival the dan wesson 1911's accuracy, but i konw i cant shoot a hi-power (with a heavy trigger) nearly as well. what would you do? i just want a super accurate target gun, and things are getting complex on me now.
should be looking at other guns?

Heavy Revolver?

If your main goal is to punch holes in targets as accurately as possible, it is hard to beat a heavy S&W revolver with longer barrel, fired in single action mode. This combination generally gives you a very light trigger pull, good adjustable target sights, a long sight radius and a heavy gun in the 40+ ounce weight range.

You mentioned a S&W model 686, which I have found to be very accurate in single action mode with either .38 special or .357 ammo. The N frame S&Ws are just as good if not better, such as the model 629 classic in .44 magnum. But the ammo for a .44 costs more.

The best target gun in your price range is the Smith and Wesson 52. They can be picked up on the gun auction sites or the S&W forum for about $850. Mine is hands down the most accurate centerfire I have shot, and I have a nice Series 70 Gold Cup and a few other nice 1911s that come close. None beat the trigger or accuracy of the 52. If you expand your budget a little bit you could pick up a 952 which is the 9mm version of the 52.

If you really want a nice centerfire target pistol, browse the olympic exempt list and then search for them on the auction sites. Anything on that list is a REAL target pistol and won't leave you with any excuses.

The suggestion for a 686 is also an excellent one, as is pretty much any longer barreled S&W revolver. Don't forget to check out another one of my favorites, the 625.
