    Is this CA-Legal?

Hey all. I just called one of my local FFL's in the Milpitas/Bay Area and they said the TRP Operator is not CA-legal and that Springfield discontinued it. This one is the one I'm referring to:

Is this accurate?? I checked the roster that has the PC9105L (ambi safety) / steel (it's missing a P versus Springfield's website). Is this gun still obtainable in CA??

Yes its legal / on the list. You can buy it. the CA list drops the P as from what I'm told that only represents the plastic case it comes in.

What da heck? Why did Target Masters tell me it's not CA-legal, and that it's discontinued?? Does anyone own this gun in California?

The old TRP Operator w/ full length dustcover was discontinued, the one you're looking at is still on the list & still in production.

Own no, I'm broke. But I've sold 5 or 6 of them. I assure you they are 100% legal. Your FFL is mistaken, feel free to hit him.

I know Springfield has changed the model number on the 2007 TRP Operators. I think they added a "P" to the end.

The new TRP's have a different size light rail than the one on the list... Your guy is probably right. They changed to a 1" light rail, tested gun on the list has a 3/4" light rail. New dimensions = new gun in the PRC regardless of model number .

I think Slick might be right. The FFL I spoke to did mention the old dustcover model. Slick, do you work at a gun shop by any chance?

That depends on why you ask.

There are a few guys I work with and plenty around here on Calguns that have forgotten more about guns than I will know anytime soon, but yes I do work at a gun shop, and I try to be better informed than the gun shop morons referred to so constantly around here lol.

I haven't heard of SA changing the length of the rail again, although it is possible. Nonetheless, I assure you the model you are looking at is on the list, and even if they had changed it, there would still be enough of them in warehouses that you could get yourself one.

Your FFL was most likely thinking of the older TRP w/ full length dustcover. It was a very intimidating pistol appearance wise, but heavy, and the stock grips tended to disintegrate (sand paper texture). They shortened the rail, changed the sights, & changed the grips at the same time.

I've been told that the new TRP where Springfield changed the length of the light rail is not Kalifornia legal because they refuse to pay $80k and submit IIRC 2 pistols to the state which will be destroyed after they get done with them.

Also new handgun models introduced in 2006 need to have either a loaded-chamber indicator or a magazine safety disconnect, and by 2007 newly introduced handgun models must have both devices.
