So, I went ahead and picked-up my ccw application today. The receptionist was very friendly and did not try and talk me out of it. (then again i was in my non-sworn pd uniform) I browsed through the app. and noticed that if and when I schedule an appt. that I would need to bring in the exact weapon in which I want to carry. Hopefully the process goes well. I was looking into buying a para ordnance warthog in .45 but does anyone else have a good reccomendations for a good carry weapon with some put down power?

If you're intent on the .45 ACP cartridge, check out a USP .45 Compact also.

I used to require using .45 ACP for defensive purposes, but I realized I was missing out on some great platforms limiting myself to only .45, so now I carry a 9mm instead

With good quality 9mm, it'll do it's job very well.

San Berdo is big on carrying an "appropriate" firearm. They don't like to see a 380 or a 25 on your permit, they want you to be serious about it.

Here is a good resource for CCW in San Berdo. The process is VERY friendly and encouraging. When I had my interview it was not a "if we decide your good cause is good enough" discussion, it was a "These are your responsibilities having a CCW" discussion.

im not intent on a .45 as anything with the right ammo will work. A narc guy I work with is selling a guardian .380 for under $200 with 3 extra mags but i dont know anything about guardians. Any info on those?

Go to www.calccw.com for lots of CCW info. Not only is there a lot of info and discussion of calibers, holsters and such, many of the members have their CCWs, or are LEOs and LEO trainers. I highly recommend having one of them review your "good cause" statement prior to submitting it to your Sheriff, to make sure there aren't things in there that will get you an automatic denial.

Whatever you put on your license (and you can put more than one gun - usually three is the number in most counties) - you should pick guns that you have owned for awhile and tested thoroughly. You want to know that they are reliable and that you can shoot them well. You can also add and subtract guns from the permit later, if you change your mind.

You asked for recommendations. Personally I would pick one compact or subcompact Glock, a smaller 1911 such as a Kimber Pro with aluminum frame, and perhaps a snubby revolver in .38 or .357. The revolver could function as a backup and would lend itself to pocket carry.
