S&W Model 19-4 Rollmarks and Stamping Questions

What do the rollmarks and stampings on the grip frame denote?

Are the grips numbered to the gun?

Do you see numbers on the grips?? If so, do they match the sn of the gun??

19-4 grips should not match the gun. The dash number denotes the change variations. The grips came from two large boxes. One for left and another from right and they were placed on the gun.

And there will be various production and assembly marks on the frame under the grips, they really don't denote anything specific outside of the factory.

Typically they will be coding for a batch of frames and the assembly group, basically noting what line it went through is my understanding. There will also be smallish inspectors marks. If you see a diamond and an S that is the mark applied to a gun that has been refinished at the factory. This is a very important mark to check for when evaluating potential collectibles.

They stopped numbering grips to guns a number of years before the 19 went to -4. I don't know if they did it in -3 either as my example of a -3 is not numbered grips to gun.
