How does Ravenconcealment compare with Comp-Tac?

For those of you who highly recommend either raven concealment or comp-tac holsters for glocks (19), which one would you say is the better choice?

    Specifically, in

*retention mechanism and release mechanism (how exactly are the guns secured in these holsters compared to say, serpas)

    *concealment

    *speed of draw when needed

    *comfort

    *freedom of movement

    Thanks for chiming in.

Looking at those, and being an owner of 2 Comp-tacs (XD and 1911) I would say the Comp-tacs. I think better comparison would be to the Crossbreed Supertuck. I have never heard of the Ravens, but a lot of folks do use the Crossbreed or the Comp-tac.

They are secured by the form of the kydex. The form is very specific/tight to the gun. I can jump up and down with my Comp-tac and my 42 oz 1911 and it does not move. Comp-tac rentention is set by tightening/screwing allen heads (2). It's a set and go, so once you set it never loosens until you want it to (adjust again).

        *concealment
The belt holster Comp-tac does not conceal well. Although it does ride close to the body due to the relative thin kydex (when compared to similar kydex brands), it can only conceal on winter days. I wear the holster only with a jacket on winter days, all other seasons require an MTAC for my Glock 23. Raven concealment wins HANDS DOWN for OWB concealment, it's soooo easy to conceal a Glock 23 /w light because it sits very close to the body; the only limitations are your belt and the clothes you wear.

        *speed of draw when needed
Comp-tac wins for speed of draw IMHO. Both holsters, due to kydex, are SUPER fast on the draw. Serpa, fobus, uncle mike, etc. are turtles compared to these holsters (think: jet plane). But like anything else, speed is relative. Train with what you will use. Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.

        *comfort
Toss a coin. Both are comfortable.

        *freedom of movement
        Same as above.

Thanks for the input, Nite, much appreciated.

Stphnman20 said there is a wait of 2 months for raven concealment holsters, is that true?

Yes, there is currently a 12-16 week wait.

Comp-tac has their production down to 3 days. I remember the days when their wait time equaled that of Raven.

Raven just needs more people working... it's a small show but they are getting big.

NiteQwil pretty much covered it; I carry a S&W 2.5" L-frame in a CTAC and a Glock 30 in a MTAC on a daily basis (well one or the other) and he nailed it. If they made the MTAC for the revolver, I'd get one. Come to think of it, it's been awhile, maybe they do now.

I love 'em and bonus, the people at CompTac are a pleasure to do business with.

Calguns might not be the best source for info on concealed carry holsters which Raven Concealment is. Just saying when its easier to get released from jail due to overcrowding than it is to get a CCW permit, the majority of Californians will not have experience with concealed carry.

Sorry to link to another sight, but here is some good info that may answer a few questions.

I am not sure if you can do this with Comp-Tacs, but I could use my old Raven as inner AND out waistband by changing the side the belt hooks were on. Retention was good, draw was fast.

I think they are getting slammed even more than usual because Magpul started using them.

I have one of these for my Glock 21 with light/laser (holsters are hard to find) They typically take a couple months.

Both companies are top notch suppliers in my book.

I currently use an MTAC when I CCW my XD9. It has been a great holster and is extremely comfortable. That being said, as I transition to the M&P9 I'm using the opportunity to switch to Raven. The MTAC design is not compatible with pistols with lights whereas the Raven has several pistol/light combos they can make.
