Speed loaders?

I have a new Ruger GP100. My very first wheel gun. =) I want to get speedloaders. What are some of the better ones out there that you recommend? Opinions? Options? How many to carry/have? Thanks for your help...

I have 3 or 4 of the HKS which I use. Once broken in they work great.

Depends on what you're going to do with them. Is it for competition?

Safariland, easy

I prefer them over HKS because to load your ammo, you only need to push it in, instead of adding that twist after. Also, it seems less prone of ammo falling out of the speedloader if it drops on the floor. Admittedly, its a little harder at first to get the ammo locked in.. but its still a very easy task once you get the feel for it.

I own a Ruger GP 100 as well and totally recommend Safariland above all else when it comes to speedloaders. For competitions, etc.. you're better off getting your gun modified for moonclips.

I disagree. While they look nice, its still a twist motion to load into your cylinder. That is why I prefer Safariland above all else.. much faster to just push it into the cylinder than adding a twist motion to it. Plus those are really expensive. Def wins out on bling factor though.

I was going to say pimp factor. I agree with safariland, pushing is definitely better than twisting. Taking a file and steel wool to them to radius the edges and smooth out some of the ridges on the safariland really helps insertion on J frames.

Safariland and HKS plastic speedloaders bow before these aircraft grade aluminum billet speedloaders by 5 Star.

Hahah, definitely in pimp factor, those reign supreme. its like.. those should come with a matching pimp stick that you can attach those speedloaders to.

Just to find out what Jerry Miculek uses.

I watched an episode of Impossible Shots where he hit 12 targets in around 5 seconds with a 6-shot revolver?

Whatever speed loader he is using certainly does what it's intended to.

Ditto, which was my suggestion if you wanted to do comp. The GP 100 has to be smithed to be able to accept moonclips. The 627 that Miculek uses comes standard to be able to accept moonclips.

Thank you all for the input. I will have to check out Safari's and HKS to see which I like better. Competition? somewhere down the line after I fully get comfortable with my GP.

Right now I just use the HKS speedloaders. They're cheap and Safariland doesn't make one for a seven shot 686 anyways. I plan to check out the SL Variant speedloaders as soon as I get a chance.
