Glock 34 spring rubs barrel

Just picked up a brand new Glock 34 and took it to the range today. Took it apart when I got home and noticed the spring appears to have rubbed the bottom of the barrel. Those are metal shavings (from the spring) after putting 100 rounds through it. I also noticed the end of the guide rod looks chewed up a little. I just reassembled it making sure the spring and guide rod was seated at the furthest point down and dry cycled it 10 times and it still rubs the barrel. I know this is not normal on a G19 since I've owned two. Anyone have experience with this?

My pops just bought a G35. He never cleans his guns, so I ended up cleaning it tuesday. It had the same thing going on. Either we've both screwed something up, or that's how it is.

Ouch. I've never seen that before. My subcompact has just polymer on the end that holds onto the slide, so there's no possible metal to metal contact. I would send the gun back to Glock or to an armorer and tell them there's a problem.

That's eating quite a bit of metal, and it's out of the barrel. That's a safety concern.

Normal, just make sure in reassembly that the recoil spring is well seated onto the barrel lug notch.

The metal flakes are normal, never seen the spring wear the finish off the barrel though.

Normal, my OD G34 has it. They rub for about the first 1000 rounds, and after that they're half way to being broken in.

I have a Glock 35 .40cal and I don't recall seeing that wear mark on my barrel.

I agree with Greg-Dawg in making sure you properly install the recoil spring rod in the middle of the barrel lug. Not on the very bottom.

It's normal and will not harm it

The spring is going to be a lot harder metal that the barrel, so when the spring bunches up during recoil, it's "machining" the bottom of your barrel. Why don't ya try a little finegrit sandpaper or better yet a 3M wheel on the O.D. of the spring to soften up the razor sharp edges. Don't get it hot if you're using a power tool.

That looks a bit like the recoil spring assembly isn't dropping down out of the 1/2 moon (deepest) notch on the barrel after putting the slide back on. It's supposed to drop out so it's farther from the barrel and resting on the locking lug only when it's reassembled and cycled. Not sure why this would happen.

I've not seen or heard of this before. You might check with Butch on Glocktalk. He's seen it all (and has pictures to prove it).

I have about 1k rds through my G34 and it shows a slight marking on the barrel. Yours seems a little severe than mine though.

My 31 has no marks at all, and I've never seen any metal flakes when I clean it.

Just an FYI, the Tenifer metal treatment is as hard as a diamond do don't worry about scratching the finish there. My G34 had it for 99% of it's 12,000+ round life with both the factory guide rod and Tungsten one w/o doing any more than the scratches you show.

This 34 has had over 12,000 rounds fired out of it and it has some wear but nothing serious and I shot a 4" ten round group at 25 yards/75 feet 3 weeks ago standing unsupported with a mix of Ranger-T and WWB. The pictures listed are of it uncleaned since my last 700 round Saturday class and I will clean it before i deliver it. I'd like to sell everything together so I can get started on my new setup so the first "SERIOUS" offer listed or PM gets it.
