CZ 9mm or .45?

So I shoot both calibers and looking to get a cz for the collection. already have a 1911 and want to stick with an all metal gun. Haven't been a big fan of the alloy frames as I like a heavier gun. Thoughts? Is there any major difference in accuracy between the B or the BD versions (I realize there is a decocker on the BD).

9mm. You will not be disappointed with a CZ-75. I have a the BD model. Out of all the 9mm handguns I have shot it is the best that i like IMO. it fits my hands perfectly, well balance when firing, well made, easy to clean, and cheap to shoot. I would suggest getting night sights with it.

I personally think CZ is very under-rated.

I just did a review of the 75B a few days ago on my blog. Honestly I thought it was great. Never fired the .45 but I'm going to guess you will do well with either one. For me, I like full sized pistols in their original intended caliber. That's why I would get the 9mm. It's just a thing with me.

I'd go with a 9mm, seems more appropriate for a 75. I'm also a 1911 owner, with a 9mm on the way.

if u want the best trigger from the cz's don't get a decocker model get a single action version.

I have the 97B and its nice, hefty and fits good in my hand. As far as CZ goes, the finish they use isn't the best, but the rest of the gun I can't complain about.

I'm a CZ lover...I have a 9mm 75BD, two 97 .45 cal, a 75B .40 and an 83 in .380....each has it's own merits and nuances...the 97 is a very big pistol...I have big hands and really like the way the 97 "fits"...I'd suggest you spend some time handling a 97 and if possible shooting it before you commit. The 75B in .40 has to be my favorite but I really like .40 cal...it's hot, speaks with authority and is very very accurate. The 9mm BD is still new enough to have a bit of a stiff trigger...I've found with other CZ's that goes away after several hundred rounds. I've made some changes to heavier recoil springs and also a stainless full length guide rod in one of the 97s....volumes have been written on the pros and cons so I'll not go there. The 97 that is dead stock shot the target shown...I used no rest...shot 50 rounds of American Eagle at approx. 25-28 feet...1/2 one hand and 1/2 two hand..not rapid fire but not slow fire either....I'm 73 with arthritis and bad eyes...46 in the 10 and 4 in the 9...off a rest any of the CZ's will cut a very nice big hole for multiple shots...They are great pistols.

I agree with opos, that CZ-97 is huge. Many people would have a difficult time getting to the DA trigger pull on that thing. SA trigger reach isn't too bad but still a small-handed person wouldn't be able to deal with it. It's big/heavy but accurate.

Personally, I'd go with the 9mm, specifically the CZ-SP01. I've had CZ-75B's before and while they are excellent pistols, I like SP01 better due to the recurve on the beavertail. I think it feels closer to a 1911 with the way the gun sits in the hand vs the CZ-75B.

No mechanical difference in accuracy between the B and BD as they're pretty much the same gun except internally. However, shooting the BD will probably be a problem accuracy-wise for the first shot if you're not used to DA/SA action.

Note that if you get a B model, you can still shoot it DA/SA but you have to manually lower the hammer which isn't as safe as having a decocker but with the B model, you get cocked-locked carry option which you can't do on the BD model.

The cz75sa has the same beavertail as the SP01. I have the 75sa I can get a higher grip on it than the standard 75b. I also like the cz75sa paddle safeties which are very 1911ish when shooting thumbs forward. My pistol looks identical to this except I have the stock rubber grips and a competition hammer. Mark
