    Does brand matter?

Soon i will be purchasing a Walther P99 and I have one question as it will be my first handgun, Does brand of ammo matter? I plan on going to the range about once a week as well as taking lessons, what would be the best ammo? is there some brands that I should steer clear off? The handgun is a 9mm btw, if that matters idk? Or is it that ammo is ammo and it dosent matter? Any recommendations will also be greatly appreciated.

If it's meant to be your safe queen, use cleaner ammo because its easier to clean. If you want to see how reliable it is, feed it the cheapest ammo. Because if it works with the cheap stuff, you'll feel confident when you need the gun and won't be able to clean it...

well cleaning won't be the issue (something I enjoy) so like the same ammo that is at walmart is good enough? like if i had four or five different brands would getting the smallest quantity of each be enough to determine? but i do see your point in having the gun experience low quality ammo as a test

Trying out different brands is a good idea (although I think the P99 will eat anything). Walmart's ammo is considered okay/good stuff. Winchester White Box 9mm sells for like $13-14 a box and Federal 9mm sells for $10 a box. When I said cheap, I meant Wolf ammo (dirty Russian stuff). I'm not sure what the prices are, but I think they have them at Turner's and Big 5. If a gun can shoot Wolf, it'll probably shoot anything :-)

Unless you have something against WalMart, do yourself a favor and buy as much of their Federal as you can and don't look back. You will have a difficult time finding cheaper ammo, even considering bulk mail order ammo.

I had a SW99 and it ate everything I fed it. Until you are a competant shooter just shoot as much of whatever you can afford. Occassionally splurge on a couple boxes of defensive ammo and enjoy shooting the good stuff.

The best is reload yourself, load light for practice, save money and shoot more.

I've used everything I can get my hands on, Winchester White Box, Wolf, Millwall reloads, garage reloads and my P99 ate it all. The most accurate plastic gun I've shot.

P99s are niftly little guns. I have to buy one someday. My buddies P99 eats everything we put through it.

As long as it will feed reliably I will get the low price winner. Doesn't matter what brand it is. Almost all ammo will fire reliably regardless of who makes it, unless there are serious issues. Defensive rounds are a different story though. I like Glaser PowR Ball over other quality expanding ammo for absolutely no discernible reason.

I shoot anything I can get. I try to find the cheapest deals for bulk ammo on the internet or at local stores including Walmart.

I also reload quite a bit of pistol ammo as this is what I shoot the most.
