    Dan Wesson 1911

im stuck between the S&W 1911 and a Dan Wesson. what are the pros & cons of each, and which one is the better gun out of box. im not looking to customize it anytime soon. i want something that is realiable and accurate, and well made.

My gut feeling is that the S&W will be right out of the box, but I feel like the DW is fit nicer with some really premium pieces. I'd prefer the smith commander models but the DW fullsize ones from my experience thus far.

Dan Wesson PM7 got very favorable review on gun magazine.
Plust Dan Wesson is rarerer than Springfield. I would get DW PM7.
'Cuz big holes are easier to see.

You can correct my spelling and grammar error anytime.
I welcome it. How else would I learn.

Smith & Wessons are nice, but have real ugly loaded chamber indicators on the side of the slide; if you can get past that a Smith will serve you well

There are some previous posts regarding the DW. I have the Bobtail & PM 7. The slide to frame & barrel fit on each is solid (as in no play at all) and racking the slide on each is very smooth. Excellent sights & quality work through out. Each is priced just under 1K. I think they're about the best value in a 1911.

Just FYI - the Bobtail does have a checkered frontstrap & I agree - wish the Pointman also had that feature.

My SW1911PD is only nine months old, but the only loaded chamber indicator is the tiny cut out on the barrel so you can see the cartridge base - and which is scarcely visible if you don't know what you are looking at.

                  Is this something new?

                  I'm very happy with mine.

Oh yes, and Dan Wesson is a fine name, if the newish owners are living up to it. My .44 magnum is indeed superb.

                    BOYCOTT Smith & Wesson

Everyone should boycotting Smith & Wesson for the shenanigans they have pulled.

Recent shenanigans, or under the prior management team?
