    Help me buy a .45!

So I am now looking to purchase a .45 ACP, the question is what platform? Ruger? Glock? or a 1911? I love the feel of a 1911 but where they lose me is the 7 to 8 mag capacity I am a big ruger fan but the 45s they make arent very pleasing to the eye, and Im not a big glock fan lol so as you can see im stuck I have a feeling it will be 1 of these brands im just not 100% sure yet. I think whatever gun I get I will obviously fall in lust as soon as I shoot it because I do love the .45 Cal. If anyone out there has any ideas on other .45s please let me know, FYI im looking to spend no more than $700

Now that I think about it would a .40 be a good substitute? Since I already started this thread give me your input on the .40 vs the .45 and any good brands that make them.

I love .45 but I also enjoy shooting .40 and 9mm.... They all work and work well in the right hands.

If you want more rounds and are considering .40 Sig Sauer may be worth considering, I would choose Sig over any of the above mentioned brands and over any 1911 your going to get for $700 ( I do like 1911 but a real nice one is going to run you more)

    Sig 226/229 are awesome
Options or if the round issue can be delt with the P220 is .45 and 8+1

    Good luck

Well you can go with a HK in 45. The USP is one of my fave's. 10rd California mags and not too bulky.

The 220 in all it variants from Sig is also a good choice. Standard 8rd mags but you can always get 10rd mags if you feel its worth it.

You can also get them in 40SW, If you are considering a 40SW the CZ75B is also pretty good. CZ also makes a 45ACP version.

      CZ75B in 40SW

My favorite is the 45. 40sw is cheaper though, more trigger time.

            Springfield XD45

I went with Springfield XD45 4" (service) model.

1st time to the range, 3 of us shot 240 rounds. None of us ever shot an xd or even 45 before. Fed it all kinds of ammo. Good groupings at 7, 10, and 15 yards, one handed, two handed. No problems of any kind, just pure fun.

                1911 capacity

It appears that magazine capacity is a major consideration for you. A full size 1911 gives you 8+1 rounds with the right magazine, and any newly purchased gun in CA can only have 10+1 rounds maximum, so 2 extra rounds are keeping you from the 1911. I think the odds are about a billion to one that you will ever be in a situation where rounds number 10 and 11 in your handgun will be the difference between success and failure. And then you can always consider reloading with a fresh magazine anyway. After a gunfight where you shoot 9 rounds of .45 it might be good to take a break, reload and consider the situation.

So I'd get the 1911 which you like the best anyway. I think your $700 maximum might be the greatest obstacle to getting the 1911 you really want.

Are the only ones I would look at. .40 will have more felt recoil then a .45 IMO. I only own 9mm and .45. There is no need for the .40 with modern bullet technology now.

                    13+1 of 230gr .45acp in a G21sf is nice.
8+1 in a SA MC Operator is also a thing of beauty.

I would save a few hundred more and get a nice 1911 in the $1000 range.
Shot placement is more important than magazine capacity...

You don't have to spend a 1000 to get a nice .45. YOu can get a good one for less than that. Also you can always get a hi cap mags later.

Get a nice .45, 1911, save up for the wison 10 round mags. Worth it!
Personally I think the .40 cal are too snappy to really enjoy shooting.

Try to shoot a Sig P220 before you decide. I have the stainless version and the extra weight reduces the recoil. Great gun!

I have a Ruger P345, 2 1911s, but my favorite is the Springfield XD. It feels better in my hand and I shoot better with it.
