Looking For A High End Sig 226.........

I'm looking for a Sig 226 in 9mm for Target Shooting.

It seems that not many of the Sig's are California approved. In fact my original choice the 226ST, is not approved, that I can see, but I thought I saw one at Reed's in S.J.

I would really like the 226 Elite Stainless, but it says not California. And the 226 X-Five Allround is not listed.

Any suggestions for something I can actually buy ?

The Sig X-Five (non-adj. trigger version) is on the approved list. Just saw one at the Pasadena Turners. It's pricey though. I think you could do better with the internet.

You can buy a 226st in CA ( I bought one earlier this year); the problem is Sig has discontinued that line, so it is a matter of finding a distributor who still has it in stock.

Try giving Irvington Arms a call and see if their distributor has any.

If you are looking for target shooting get the X-Five competition, which is SAO. The X-Five All-around is DA/SA, which I do not think fits your requirement anyways.

I have an Elite as well (not stainless) and given what you are looking for I would just go with the X-Five Comp. The trigger is pretty nice on it.

+1 I own an ST model and still prefer the feel and balance of the alloy framed Sigs esp on the 226 platform. You don't get the bells and whistles of the X5, Equinox or Elite but it's a workhorse which will do it's job as well as the fancy models. I also do own an equinox P226 and it's also a great shooter, but this is not available in 9mm and I think the 9mm would be a better choice for a target shooting pistol. As much as I love my equinox and all the other "high end" P226 models out there. If I could do it all over again in regards to the P226 platform, I would have just stuck with my regular P226R 9mm as my only P226.

Why not buy the X5 competiton, pick up a set of wood Nills, and send it to Gray's for trigger work? You'd basically have a L1 X5 for maybe a few bucks short of an L1 depending what Gray's charges for the tune.

+1 for Grayguns. I just got my P226 Equinox back from them and it is ridiculous. You cant go wrong with an X-Five either.

My vote goes for the 226ST. I own one in .357 Sig and I have to imagine the recoil of one in 9mm would be pretty mild.

I love the look of the X5 comp, and it shoots really well, but a new (or better yet refurb) 226 worked over by Gray's guns would be much easier to come by and probably about the same price. The Equinox is sexy & sleek as well, but you'd still want to have some trigger work done.

Buying the .40 Equinox and a Bar-sto 9mm barrel and some Gray's trigger work would give you a sweet little range package in 2 calibers, but would run you quite a bit of cash. If you've got cash to burn perhaps consider that route, two guns for the price of one.
