I would never own a USP again, but I'm intrigued by the P30 and HK45 which was designed with the help of Larry Vickers and Ken Hackathorn. Here's an on going endurance test of an HK45:

I think I will get the HK45. ..... BUT. What makes a full size USP 45 bad compared to HK 45 ?

I'll tell you this, the HK45 was designed to feel and operate closer to a 1911 which is why Larry and Ken were involved in the design.

Out of ALL the .45s I've shot the HK 45 is the only one close to the 1911. We've got one in Burbank if you want to try one.

FYI, the HK45c has different ergos similar to the P2000/SK series.

IMO the HK45 shoots and feels nothing like a 1911. At all. The HK45 is an outstanding gun with some big quirks that made me not like it. The grip angle is different than that of a 1911 (to MY hand). I had to really tilt the nose up to see the front sight. Don't have to do that as much with a 1911. The LEM trigger, at the time, wasn't avail and wouldn't be for a year. Silly stupid for a company to not be able to bring to the market in a timely manner a bunch of plastic and metal. Other than that, the HK45 shoots incredibly well and is very accurate. It seems way too big for the round count. It also doesn't make the USP series bad. If you're going to carry it concealed get the compact obviously. The grip on the full size is quite rough compared to the P2000 like HK45c.

                        See http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_produ...45_general.asp

"The HK45 was developed as a product improvement of the highly regarded USP45, first released in the 1995. The Caliber .45 ACP HK45 includes several user-inspired enhancements including changeable grip panels (backstraps), a Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail, better ergonomics, and more ambidextrous controls."

I have an USP 45 compact and HK45, but I prefer to shoot 1911s. Honestly, the 1911 feels like a more natural shooter. The HK P7 is a natural shooter and has the best trigger of any handgun that I have personally shot.

I know they are different as far as a feel . But what about their differences as a GUN ? Shooting? Accuracy? ETC. HK Still makes a USP and HK 45. I guess I will just have to get one to find out.

The HK45 is an amazing pistol - best polymer .45 on the market today hands down. You will not be disappointed with it - and if you are-- you won't loose any money when you resell it being this is California and its not on the list.

...and yes--ergonomically speaking its really that much better than the USP which I have carried for years.
