  • Smith & Wesson M&P

Well, seeing as there's yet another Draconian law on the books for 2006 to further limit firearms innovation in the PRK I decided to finally look at S&W handguns for the first time in a while (being that it's pretty much S&W and the Browning hi-power using both chamber loaded and mag disconnect). The M&P looks extremely cool... does anyone know if it will be available to civilians or will it just be Military & Police as the gun is named?

It'll be civilian legal. They wanna make money (American gun co's don't make much $$ from govt sales given all the support that's required, buybacks of old guns, etc.)

It'd be nice gun except it's hammerless. Haven't heard great things about the trigger either.

I'll certainly be buying one, in 9mm or .357 Sig. It seems pretty well thought-out. My hammerless Glocks work fine, as do my pistols with hammers.

          Dr. Ken,

Yes, it does. I have a (hammerless) Glock as well, but am certainly not enamored of the non-DA/non-SA trigger. This S&W M&P seems to be more of the same.

It's nice to have a clean crisp SA pull when you want it - HK USP & SigPro are both plastic guns that offer this.

Yep, it looks like a really nice gun. Can't wait to hold one, and see how comfy it is in the hand.

Impact Guns is getting ready to sell this gun. But get this - they have a "California Legal" version of it too. See here about 3/4 of the way down the page:

Shop guns, ammo, and accessories at Impact Guns — online since 1992. Handguns, AR-15s, AK pistols, hunting rifles, and more from top brands. Expert staff, competitive prices, ships to your local FFL.

I hope it's not a neutered version of this gun (a la Walther P22) and just comes with 10-round magazines.

                Prob just a mag difference.

I'm sure S&W/Walther went thru a big hullaballoo after the P22 'laboratory queen' fiasco.

This gun does not appear to have a threaded barrel.

Hullaballoo is always a lot of fun as a word.

Has anyone fired one of these yet?? Likes/dislikes?? I dont know anyone that has one, and the few ranges around here dont have them for rent, so I havent been able to fire it yet. Turners has them in stock now, and although I've read good reviews in the gun rags, I tend to take magazine reviews with a grain of salt, I know editors prefer not to piss off advertisers.

Well, If your are in SoCal, you may want to attend the Shooting Sports Fair next weekend. There should be somebody there like S&W or Turners with demo units you can run a mag through for a couple bucks.

I checked one out the other week. It was a really nice pistol. I would buy one over a XD series...

But it still seems like the M&P and the HK2000/3000 is trying to play catch-up with the Walther P99, and they do that pretty well, but I don't see them offering anything nicer than my P99. Besides, I already have 3 16rnd mags for my P99, so I'm not likely to get anything new unless it really impresses me.

i picked mine up on wednesday. for some reason, it shoots low. i don't know if it's my fault or what. i thought i read on arf.com that it happened to someone else's and they sent it back for repairs. other than that, it's a very nice pistol based on my n00b experience.

i'll take pics of it tonight.

They feel real nice in thye hand and are small enough that you don't have to have NBA hands to work it.
