    Ruger Noob question

Just picked up my SR9 today and I'm excited to take it out to the range..

I have one question maybe someone out there can help me out with.

Everytime I pull the slide to the rear the slide lock automatically locks into place. Is this a new thing Ruger came out with when they came up with the design? Is this something I should be concerned about?

    Thanks CalGunners!

Is the magazine in your gun when you pull the slide back?

It may be improperly assembled if the slide locks back without a magazine in it. It definitely should not do that. The slide stop spring might be in backwards, sitting improperly, or something like that. Could also be something forcing the slide stop up. Cleaned it yet?

I cleaned the hell out of it, I don't see what can be forcing the slide stop.. I figured I'm gonna bring it into the shop to have it checked out.

Definitely a good idea. Is there any way you can post a picture of the slide stop lever without the slide on the gun? Whatever the case SOMETHING is forcing that slide stop to go UP if it locks back with no magazine in it.

I agree it shouldn't do that. I have the SR9 and no problems with about 1300 through her.

After the clean are you sure you put it back together correct? Spring in backwards perhaps? Although I don't think you would have gotten that far with it assembled incorrect, but I'm not 100%, I've never installed my backwards. The only way the slide should stay back is with slide block engaged. Let us know what happens I'm curious

I don't think it will lock back when you have ammo in the mag and mag in the pistol. If it does, there is a problem.

How are you holding it when you pull back the slide, you could have your thumb on the slide stop and be pushing it up without knowing it. Yes it does happen.
