USP 45 Range Test!

Took my new ( 1995) full size USP 45 out to the range. I only Federal HST 230+P JHP AMMO. Fired 2 boxes ( 100 rounds at 25 and 50 yards) . Very soft recoil , function was 100 %.

Fired another 50 ( 45 single action and 5 DA.) on this target at 25 yards. ALL my shooting was done with FED 230+p ammo.

It will hold its own with any 1911 I own. And I have some nice ones

nice shooting. I am relunctant to get a polymer 45. What's the recoil like compared to a full size metal 1911?

Considering that my ammo is HOT. I would say that it is much softer that shooting a full size 1911 with 230 Ball.

The pistol is VERY accurate out to 50 yards. Much less recoil than a SIg P220 with alloy frame. a little less than a Glock 21.

The only 45's that are more accurate are my custom 1911's with Federal 185 SWC Match ammo.

I second this, which is surprising. While my experience isn't exactly the same.. but I found my USP 40 to be softer shooting than my all stainless P226 in 40. Its quite strange.. cause I'd expect all stainless to really absorb more recoil, not that I thought the recoil on the P226 was too harsh - just in comparison it seemed more "jarring" than my USP 40.

With the caveat that recoil is very subjective, I'll echo the "soft" sentiments. It's soft enough that you can feel the slide cycling. But it's got a little more muzzle flip than a steel 1911 (which I also have).

it does have a jump.but comes back also very quickly

I also own a USP 45. It's a smooth shooter. I believe the huge frame absorbs a lot of the recoil and the guide rod has some sort of recoil dampner on it, as does all USPs. I'd bet you'd have to spend more than the cost of a USP 45 if you wanted a 1911 that shoots that good.

ugh, darn 10 day waiting period... im chomping at the bit here!!!! got the same gun in lockup, but didnt get a look at the date code. didnt care enough, it looked to only have a few hundred rounds through it...

Fired it again this weekend. Another 200 rounds of Federal HST ammo. Works every time. I got 10 out of 10 hits on 8" plate and 50 yards. Very happy with this one.... Will start looking for a compact.

I am now finally in the market for a 1911 pistol after over 17 years of buying handguns because I feel I should own one as a self-respecting gun enthusiast. Why so long? Two HK USPs and two .45ACP Sigs that shoot so damn well out of the box, that's why. I always thought that a 1911 was unnecessary if my USPs and especially my Sig P220 shot so bloody well out of the box without any mods, why would I want to get a 1911 that everyone seems to have to tune to make it shoot right? (I know that is a gross over generalization.)

I have a fullsize USP ('94 date) and a compact USP ('98 date), both in .40S&W. The compact is one of my carry guns. Neither one have ever had an issue with any ammo. (I usually shoot Winchester Ranger SXT HPs but have shot whatever else has been provided.) They are just solid, reliable, accurate guns. People always talk about Glocks being the most reliable pistols but HKs get left out of that discussion. Maybe it's the price of entry for HK. I think they're worth every penny and still far cheaper than even semi-custom 1911s.
