CCR finish durability

For those of you who have had CCR refinish your gun, how well has it held up? I'm reaching out to CCR but I'm curious if other people are having the same durability issues in the finish that I'm seeing.

This is after 700 rds after the gun was refinished. In conversation with Mary via email it was explained that it was due to the original sig finish (Level 3 hard anodizing) was worn down too far.

I thought the CCR process would provide additional protection since portions of the frame rail were wearing through the factory anodizing but it seems to be a cosmetic finish at this point.

I already sold the gun to a friend but it was just back from them, holstered twice and set in the center console of the truck on our way out on a shooting trip and i picked it up because i thought i saw a scratch h and it sure was one. I was embarrassed to say it was just refinished I was with him the entire time it came out of the box good as new so nothing crazy was done.... It's ok though i practicAlly gave him the gun bug would not spend $125 and then get raped for their $40 shipping each way they tricked me on.. I ilk be sending my guns elsewhere.

As I explained to you in the email on Tuesday your frame was in very poor condition when we received it.

Sig uses a typeIII hard anodize on all ots alloy frames. It is the most durable protection for the alloy. That being said your gun had already worn threw most if the anodize

Brad makes detailed notes on every gun during the refinishing process and here is what he had written about your particular Sig P226 frame

" Frame was in poor shape,original anodize badly worn.Chips on the accessory rail,trigger guard mostly on the right side and a big chip/chunked out at front of trigger window. Really bad at mag well entrance almost all inside edges are bare and gouged up. Most likely caused by the feed lips hitting it during rapid mag changes
Rails are very bad,right front top of rail the anodize is thin and getting worse heading toward the rear. Right side pad is worn threw and is battering the aluminum.
Left rail is worn and completely threw the anodize along the entire front section with chipping on the edge. Top of rear pad is worn along the edges. Side of rail is OK just the normal amount of wear only spotty chipping on inside edges. Ways on the left side are showing signs of thinning anodize.
Sloppy fit of decocker lever bushing to frame is letting the decocker lever strike the alloy frame an chip and deform the alloy in the usual ares. Bottom of ways where the frame begins its full width is completely worn threw the anodize and is chipping off along the edge.Rough and chipped around the take down lever hole on the left side.

Overall the frame has been well worn and is in poor shape."


No finish is going to repair the damage that was already done to your frame. All finishes will wear. Cera-Hide is a protective finish along with being cosmetic like all finishes are but it is not a magical one. It can not repair or prevent wear when the factory anodize has already been destroyed.

To answer your question from your email. Yes our finish or any applied finish would adhear better if we removed the factory anodize but
WE DO NOT REMOVE FACTORY ANODIZE as it would weaken the alloy and cause the rails to wear even more quickly.

You stated that you use this gun for competition shooting which would explain the high round count and its extreme wear.

I am sorry that you are not happy with the frame. I will refinish it for you at no charge but it will wear again in the damaged and hard wear areas on the frame rails.

I do wish you allowed us more then one day to respond to our on going emails with you before posting this on several forums

I think the OP does not understand how guns work. Polymer finishes are not as abrasion resistant as nickle or chrome. You cannot expect a polymer finish ro stand-up to wear in a high abrasion area like the frame/slide rails.

I have a gun finished in Black-T and it shows the same wear in the rails after 500 rounds. People need to be realistic.

I'm still glad the thread was shared. Mark me as ignorant, but I was also under the impression that Cera-Hide would protect a gun that has past anodizing wear. I was thinking of sending a beater gun to get restored, but now I realize I should save everyone time (and money for me) and not bother. I sent CCR 2 emails in the past with similar questions about the protection, but due to them having a family emergency, they never got around to answering my questions (totally understandable and I'm in no way faulting them).

So lesson learned. Got my questions answered here and I thank the OP for sharing. CCR is the place to go to make a good gun look even better.
