My first handgun suggestions?

In a few months I will be getting a handgun, but my knowledge about them is limited. Can anyone suggest a fairly reasonable priced, good quality, and reliable handgun?

So far I have been thinking..

1911
Glock 9mm or 40s&w
Walther p99
Springfield XD 45acp

No revolver on that list? And I notice no one suggested a revolver as a 1st handgun, but I'd go with either an S & W K38 or a K22. Ammo for the 22 is of course much cheaper, but I don't think 38SP ammo is so expensive that it will unduly limit practice.

Well, you need some form of DMV or military issued ID just like any other firearms purchase.

That said, I'd second the comment on buying a full-sized handgun (although I think a compact like the G19 is good too). A subcompact probably wouldn't be too good for learning the ropes.

Ok. I might have a bit of trouble with this. I live with my parents, but I do not have any of the bills or anything other than the internet bill on my name. I do have a student id from college, but I do not think that would qualify as "government issued" idea..unless someone here can prove me wrong otherwise. I pretty much looked at the "study guide" the doj has about the hsc...which seems very common sense..basically easy for me. any suggestions? I heard that you can get some kind notary paper that proves you live with that person?
