If they're Mepro's, they should be adequate. Standard three-dot design, standard rear notch width. They're good quality sights, no doubt.
For some (like me), sights are a highly preferential and subjective matter. Like you, I much prefer a wider rear notch, because I like the daylight between the sights and I can align them perfectly well myself w/o the claustrophobic OEM sights "helping" me. (You don't want to get too narrow w/ the front sight, however, or it will get to the point where it becomes fragile if a tritium vial is installed. What you want to do is get a wider rear notch to get the sight picture you need.)
Look closely at the pictures provided in the links above for Heinies, Warrens, an Sevigny's. They're all GREAT sights, but a discerning eye will show subtle differences that may make a world of difference to you if you're like me: As noted, some notches are traditionally squared (my preference), while the Warrens have a U-shaped notch. The Heinies have serrated faces, the Warrens and Sevigny's do not. (I find serrations help with glare and much prefer them.) The Warrens and Sevigny's have front dots that are outlined in bold white (faster to see), the Heinie front is more subdued (less cluttered sight picture). There's also the shape/profile of the entire rear sight itself. Some are streamlined for snag-free draws, some are deliberately angular so you can use them to do one-handed slide manipulations by hooking them on your belt/boot.
Again, you'll be well-served by any of the sights already mentioned, even the Mepros. The devil's in the details.
ETA: Heinie also makes a set of sights called "The Ledge" (http://www.heinie.com/product_info.php?products_id=142) that gives you a better shelf for one-handed manipulations than their "Slant Pro's."
