    Tact Light Help...

    Hey all!

I have a HK P2000 and I am looking for some thoughts on Tact Lights to mount on the underside rail. I use the Firearm as my primary home defense weapon and my wife shoots it as well. What I am looking for is anyone that owns a firearm similar to the P2000 (like another HK ) to give me advise on what to look for and where to shop. I have done a little research and from what I can tell, there are mixed reviews on many of the products. Thanks for all the info!

I think the TLR-1 is the best value light (just under $100 if you shop around some). If you've got spare cash lying around you could opt for a Surefire.

Second on the SureFire. They are expensive but they will survive hell and back with you. There is nothing wrong with getting something less expensive if you aren't going to be carrying it into the mountains of Afghanistan though. For simply keeping around the home you might not need that kind of toughness.

The price isn't really that big of a deal to me (I bought a HK remember ). I mainly need something that is easy to turn on and off and will work essentially everytime (unless I'm dumb and don't change the batteries). My only semi-concern with SureFire is that I have heard many mixed reviews on them. Some say they are the best on the market and others say that they have the occasional issue with the bulbs and for the price, they shouldn't have issues. Thanks for the responses to date!

Both the Surefire and Streamlight suggestion are tops of the list for handgun weaponligts. However, due to the P2000 being a compact, the light will hang a bit past the muzzle.

I don't think SureFire has any more bulb problems than any other light stick. That's my experience anyway. Good thing is that they have interchangeable bulbs. If you want a more powerful light just buy a brighter bulb. I can tell you that I have dropped, kicked, stepped on, chucked, and soaked my SureFire. It still works and is in my dresser drawer ready to go.

                    Do you have children?
What kind of a house do you live in?
I prefer a hand held light to a weapon mounted light.
I have children and three different bedrooms.
They all know that parent’ bedroom is the safe haven.
I don’t want the muzzle pointed in same direction that the light is pointed as I do room clearings in my house. Just something to consider.

I"m pretty fond of my Insight M6x with laser, its very compact and lightweight.

I really like the surefire X series. I have a x300 on my glock and an x200a on my rifle. Both are great.

I've also used the TLR-1 and its a nice choice as well. It's a little bit bigger than the SF, and the finish is t quite as good, but it's also 1/2 the price.

I don't really understand this. So you are going to shoot where the light isn't pointing? Doesn't that seem more dangerous than being able to identify your target?
Fallujah had become a magnet for foreign jihadists and there were several thousand in the city who had come to make martyrs of themselves, to die while killing as many Americans as possibleAt each house I said a prayer, 'Please God get me out of this one.' When I come out of the house, I thank Him, light up a cigarette and move on to the next onesigpic

No I will ID something or somebody while I prepare to engage.
But with pets and kids and their friends in a larger house, I want to ID before muzzle is on target. Under these situations I want to ID while not having muzzle on mark of the light.

PS: Muzzle at ready while light is on forward advance.

If that's how you were taught and that's how you train.....then so be it.

Still seems rather inefficient to me. It's a little more difficult and less accurate for me (and most others) to hold a pistol with one hand and engage targets while manipulating a flashlight with the other hand. Doesn't matter what cool little technique you use. I am more accurate, and in-turn safer, with the pistol and light as one system I can use two hands on.

Regardless of preferance, your safety and accuracy will ultimately depend on your training and trigger finger discipline.
