    Do I need a .40S&W?

I already have a 9mm and 45, should I be looking to pick a 40S&W in the future? Or stick to the two handgun calibers I have (btw I am looking to get a 10mm in the future)?

    IMO...

With your 9mm and .45, you are covered. The only .40 I have is an MP5 .40 clone, but only because it was an awesome deal!!! ($750 after middleman ffl and local ffl transfer fees)
Had I not added the MP5 .40 to my safe, I would not even think about getting a matching .40 pistol. I consider myself well covered with my 9 and 45.

If you are looking for a 10mm in the future, then just skip the .40SW and save up your $$$ for the 10mm handgun plus the ammo.

You are already covered with the 9 and the 45.

        NO!

Once you get a 10mm you won't need the 9 or 45 either... I had one for over 20 years as my only centerfire. they work.

Downside is cost of ammo and followup shots are more difficult with the 10mm.. at least it was in a Colt Delta Elite..

I'm back to 45ACP as a primary and a 1911 as the delivery system.. Good old slabsides been doing the job with it's friend the 45acp for near 100 years now...

I have over a dozen different pistols, and none of them are in .40s&w. Nothing wrong w/ the caliber, other than it's kinda snappy and not good for beginners. I just find 9mm and .45acp more pleasant to shoot and more accurate for me.

Well, I don't think anyone really NEEDS any of the calibers... as I see every one of them as more than adequate for the average civilian. Even moreso, not needed if you already have both a 9mm and .45. I personally own .357, 9mm, and 40sw. Ammo cost and availability were huge factors I considered when purchasing my guns. Between 9mm and .40sw, I can always find affordable ammo in bulk. Haven't been as lucky with .38sp and 357mag, but fortunately the range I shoot at sells factory reloads.

If you have a high capacity 9mm and 45acp pistol for what ever reason you bought them for then the 40 is really not needed. Unless you just want to buy another pistol. Then that's a good enough reason to get one.

                    What a stupid question.

                    Of course you need a 40 S&W!

Do I need another gun? Does my butt look fat in these jeans? Does a bear poop in the forest? <-- Questions that never need answering.

Do you need a .40SW? Probably not.

Skip 40sw and move right to 10mm. If you want to try something early crazy you can get a s&w 610 and have it converted to 10mm magnum.

I had a springfield xd-40 and a glock fotay, suffice to say i now only have .45 and 9mm, and of course a .357 wheel gun.

I don't see a need to convert the 610 to a 10mm magnum, just seat em long and load it as much as the gun can handle.. Heck, I seat 40's to 1.260" with 190 gr RN's and 200 gr HP's and get the same kind of performance from it as the large pistol primer'ed 10 mm. You don't need the longer case for long loaded bullets.

No. If you're getting a 10mm, you'll have what .40 slow and weak was meant to be.
