It's an auction site.

The site itself is fine. The sellers are what you need to worry about, just like Ebay, Gunbroker, or wherever.

I post all my consignment items on GA...it's the same as gunbroker.com...I personally have not had a bad experience through them...selling or buying

I've bought 2 guns from the same dealer on GunsAmerica and had them shipped to my FFL. The first transaction went fine. In the second transaction the dealer sent the gun and it had a blatant manufacturers defect (the sight groove was off center to the right) and it had to be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. I tried to return the gun to the dealer but he said I was out of luck and had to take care of it under warranty. Everything worked out in the end but the whole situation left me without my brand new gun for over a month. This dealer had over 2000 positive transactions. Needless to say I never gave that dealer my business again and it made me cautious about taking chances like that again on GunsAmerica.

If you use GunsAmerica I would make sure you feel comfortable with the seller before you commit to buy and also check what the fees will be from your FFL who receives the gun. The total price might not be any better than ordering it locally if it's a new gun.

I recently made several "offfers to buy" separate guns there....then after not hearing from the sellers, I contact them via other means. All of the adds were old, and out-dated. The guns had been sold for some time. I wasn't too impressed with that site. I won't bother there again...

Some of the shops that post ads there are on top of it as they take it seriously. Some half-a** it and you'll run into guns that sold long ago etc.

My experience

Over the last 10 years I have bought several things through Guns America. It differs in format from Gunbroker and Auction Arms, in that it does not use a timed auction with a definite start and finish, but rather open ended posting of the item for sale. A successful purchase depends mainly on the honesty and competence of the seller, rather than the site itself, so you have to research the seller as best you can.

I have used the site mainly to locate items I want for CA private party transfers, by doing a geographic search based on my zip code. If I find something within 25 or 50 miles of my location, I contact the seller through the site and start an email dialog about the item, the price, etc. If we reach agreement we will meet at a local FFL and I get to inspect the item before I pay for it, which eliminates much of the risk for a buyer.

The items on Guns America will vary from very high price to good bargains. You have to do your homework to sort them out. The highest prices are usually from dealers, while the lowest are from people who are in a hurry to sell because they need to raise money, or don't know the current market for their item.
