    Springfield 1911 9mm

    Hi

I purchased a pair of Springfield 1911 9mm pistol's a few months back and I need to send 1 back to Springfield to get a problem checked, the pistol will fire but not recycle and requires a manual cycle.
I am hoping to use the pistol at the Nov 7th Shoot n Q @ Burros on the General Shooting line and the Tactical Turkey Shoot.

Question: Has anyone used the Springfield Service before? Where they prompt? What experience if you have?

    thx for the info

I dont think you'll have a problem; most manufacturers have around a 3 week turn around time.

Can you give a better description of the problem though? It would help both SA and us understand what's wrong. Is the pistol failing to extract, or not returning fully to battery when feeding the next round?

I've never seen or heard of a 1911 that failed to cycle the slide in some fashion when fired. What ammo are you using?

"An extended slide stop is the second most useless part you can put on a 1911"

although I suppose there are a few tanks which I owe an apology to for that remark"

The thumb safety on my TRP Operator broke. SA covered shipping both ways and had my pistol back to me in just over a week.

The pistol failing to extract, not returning fully to battery when feeding the next round. (Net New Pistol)

Example: cycle slide and load a round. fire. go to fire the next round and nothing. drop mag, cycle slide and out pops the empty shell. Happens every time. One other odd note: I can manually cycle the pistol and the slide will stick open 4 times out of 10. Meaning it will stick open without locking the slide open. I had the same issue with the other pistol but I changed the recoil spring from its default 13lb spring to a 12lb. The change didnt work with this pistol.

Is the hammer staying back after firing the first round like it should? If you load one round in a magazine and load and fire does the slide lock open? What ammo are you using?

Failure to extract is almost always caused by insufficient extractor tension. With the slide off the frame and barrel removed a loaded round stuck against the breach face under the extractor hook should stay in place through LIGHT shaking. Extractor tension is easily adjustable and there are several how-to's on the web.

I've heard of Springfield Armory 1911's having assembly numbers stamped on the bottom of the slide which raise a burr and get hung up on the disconnector. This can cause the slide to lock open when manually cycling it slowly. Does your pistol show any unusual wear marks on the bottom of the slide or top of the frame?

SA Customer Service is good. When I called them in about my XD they emailed me a shipping label and I got it back in about 2 weeks. You should not have a problem getting it back for the Nov 7 shoot.
