The first I purchased was a Ruger Security Six, followed shortly by a Ruger Mk2 bull barrel .22. I still have both.

My first was a Ruger Mark II, bull barreled version. I still take it with me to the range every time I shoot, more than 20 years later. I am teaching my kids to shoot pistols now that they are comfortable with a rifle, and this is the gun they are learning on.
22 ammo is dirt cheap, the Ruger is indestructible, it is well-balanced, and will eat any ammo I feed it. I have never had a feed problem, even when the gun was filthy. Starting with a 22, in my experience, builds confidence in a young shooter before they "graduate" to a larger caliber.
You can get a starter Mark III for under $300, or go whole hog for the Hunter at $550, either way, you will probably pass it to kids or grandkids. I can't ever see getting rid of mine.
There's my 2 cents, hope it helps."How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual;
as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over,
controlled, supervised, and taken care of." -- Texas State Representative Dr. Suzanna HuppComment
