380 ammo

I know 9mm FMJ rounds have over penetration issue. Does 380 FMJ have this issue too? My gun has problem feeding JHP and i have tried three different brands already (Winchester PDX, Remington Golden Saber, and Federal). What are some quality FMJ brands using for self defense?

P.S- I have 380, 9mm, and 45acp. This thread is not about caliber war. So please dont bring that up. Thanks

No, .380 ACP has an issue with under penetration. Stick with FMJ in .380 ACP.

+1 on what Katana stated, go FMJ in .380 acp to get the penetration

While no .380 is a great stopper, it appears that the expanding loads have significantly better performance here: http://www.handloads.com/misc/stoppi...=10&Weight=All

Interesting table, it still shows the the Federal FMJ at 90 grain providing an inch more of penetration. Perhaps those who invest in the self defense loads make more investment in practice and therefore are better shots. But for the original poster, might take a gander at http://www.brassfetcher.com/380ACP.html and then look at the same site for 9mm stuff to make a comparison between the two to determine if you see the problem for 380 fmj that you would see with 9mm fmj.

My understanding is that FMJ .380 ACP ammo out of a 3-4" barrel autopistol has about the same penetration as similar .38 special (not +P) ammo out of a snubbie.

Both guns just don't generate enough velocity to reliably expand HP bullets. For 9mm service pistols, overpenetration IS a concern, but for .380's UNDER-penetration seems more of a concern, IMHO and as someone else posted.
