    Revolver Suggestions

I'm interested in a .22 top break open revolver. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Otherwise if not top break open, fire away with your normal .22 revolver suggestions, thanks =).

More info needed. What are you planning on using it for?

    Plinking?
    Hiking/trail?

    etc....

Just for plinking, doesn't have to be top of the line, I'm guessing around $400.

If you want a revolver, look around for a S&W 17 (or K-22). Nice gun, not available new in the PRK anymore, mildly collectible, sweet action, well balanced. You can use it to knock down cans and pin squirrels to trees. Beautiful and versitile.

Great! I'll take a look. How long has it been since they were sold new in PRK? Did they not renew it on the handgun list?

Ruger Bearcats are a lot of fun. Single action .22 revolver. Pick one up and you get an urge to spin it on your finger.

The S&W 17 (six shot) was discontinued in 1996, then reissued with a 10 shot aluminum cylinder and discontinued again in '99. They are out there and a reasonable price is $400 (cause that is what I paid for mine).

If you can find a K-22, which is the same gun, it is possible that it is a C&R which means that you don't need to worry about the CA Gun List (Disc. in '57)

Also, look for a M-18 or K22 Combat Masterpeice, same gun, different sights.

FWIW...I also love the Bearcat and the Single Six...

If anyone wants a 6" barreled 10 shot S&W revolver in So Cal, a friend of mine may be selling his. It's a bit on the heavy side, extremely easy to shoot, and extremely accurate. PM me if interested, and I'll send you in the right direction. I believe his is the 6" 617 in stainless with full underlugged barrel.

A gun is always loaded. There is a difference between an urge and doing it.

I would kick out any shooters I see spinning guns at the range.

There's a reson quickdraw guys use wax bullets. They hurt if you shoot yourself (it can easily happen when twirling and quick drawing), but it hurts like hell instead of KILLING you.

I made a bunch of parrafin bullets once. Fired them just using a primer. Lots of fun but put pretty good dents in my wall.

The only top-break .22 revolver I know of is the H&R 999. It's been out of production for some time but you might find one somewhere. I wouldn't mind having one.

Otherwise, the S&W 617 recommendation is a good one.

Top-breaks can be tricky for accuracy unless you get a tight one, especially if the rear sight is on one side of the break and the front is on the other, and many of them are inexpensively made.

I'm a big fan of .22 revolvers, and here's what I'd get, depending on what niche I wanted to fill:

                          Money no object: S&W Model 17, 18, or 617 (big frame), S&W 317 or 34(small frame). I especially like the 10 shot 617.

Less expensive DA: Taurus Tracker (big frame) or 94 (small frame)

SA: Ruger Bearcat or Single Six

                          Cheap SA: EAA Bounty Hunter

Cheap DA: High Standard Sentinel 9 shot - my favorite cheap .22 revolver, much better than the Rohm, Arminius, H&R, and such.

Personally, unless the Taurus was a really great deal, I'd spend a little more for a S&W, since they're much better, based on the examples of both that I've shot. Ruger makes an SP101 DA .22, but you don't see them too often.

                            .22 Revolver

I picked up a nice S&W model 18 a few weeks ago, they don't turn up very often, and less often in nice shape especialy for being made in 1959. I plan on trying it out in the next day or two for the first time

                              That's a beauty! You can't go wrong with a nice Model 18.
