    Tell me about 25 acp

I don't want to hear the stuff about "don't bother, its weak sauce" and that crap. Obviously it's not a big bullet and doesn't have a ton of punch. I inherited one however and I may as well learn about the round a bit and what it IS good at. If your curious, I inherited a 25 auto Titan. What kind of distance should I practice at, how effective is it for defense, and what type of bullet would be best to use for defense? Thanks

'gonna move this to 'handgun' - you'll probably get better response there.

The bullet selection is not extensive 35 Grain JHP and 50 Grain FMJ. The pistols are cute I have a Beretta .25 ACP Jetfire. I'm unable to answer your question within the parameters that you requested. However consider that a 36 grain .22LR travels at twice the speed of the 35 grain JHP so you can draw your own conclusions.

It's better than nothing. I think .22LR has hotter loading options but .25 is centerfire and that's always a good thing for reliability.

I have a Titan myself. my inlaw said they couldn't hit anything past 10 feet. from my experience it's as accurate as any pistol. I get 6-8" at 20 yards. for a small pistol I say it's good. try are meant for closer range but I like to shoot further then intended just to know my max potential of the weapon.

For SD, personally I'd stick with round nose for reliability and penetration and really practice on hitting the vitals.

good to know, its not really for home defense, but nice to know what it can do if needed.

.25ACP was invented because the rimfire cartridges of the time were not always reliable, due to uneven distribution of the primer compound in the hollow rims.
The most popular .22 RF cartridge back then is what we know now as the .22 Short.
The .25 was a little bigger, centerfire for reliability, and had a heavier bullet.

Pocket pistols velocity of both .22 Short and .25 ACP is around 800FPS.
The .25 ACP FMJ bullet weighs 50 grains, the short is 29 grains.
Cartridges of the World shows the .25ACP from a pocket pistol with a velocity of 810FPS and a 50g bullet for 73 pounds of muzzle energy.

(Side note: the Nazis in WW2 used .25 ACP and .32 ACP as the alternatives for 9x19. They did not like the .380 round).

That will do the job if you do yours. It just won't be a reliable stopper. I've seen what a .25 ACP will do.

I have a Colt Jr and a Raven in 25acp. Both are very reliable. And can be pretty accurate if you can get a decent grip. I won a derringer in a 7 yard postal match with the Raven a few years ago

The .25 cal round is good for an ear, nose, and throat gun. Shouls practice at arms length and a little beyond. I bought my for teh center fire reliability. I should have gotten a .32. The guns come are a nice little packages though.

All I can tell you is my buddy has a 1958 Beretta in .25ACP. It's a real hoot to shoot!

10 yards and under and stick with FMJ. the euro loadings tend to be hotter.

many people are killed each year with the under powered 25acp.
