Finally found the spring plug for my 1911!

I was working on my Kimber, opening up the rear sight last night. Got the work done on the sight and then that lead to a thourgh cleaning of the gun. When trying to reassemble the pistol the spring plug shot off out of my hand. I never heard it land. Took a few times of looking around the living room looking for it. I was just about to order a new one this morning when I found it. I have to be more careful next time. Sheesh!

I hate it when that happens. I've lost a few bolt plunger springs out of my S&W revolvers. Even when disassembling on a white bedsheet.

I don't know how the heck they can even make a spring that small. But once it's gone, it's gone.

Be glad it didn't spring off and hit you in the face. I'd imagine that would hurt.

Ya, the thought ran through my mind that I need some spares. I had this gun since 2001 and have just recently started shooting in IPSC. Not many rounds through the gun and I am just starting to learn to work on the 1911 system.

            It does.

Trust me that's a mistake you never make again. Especially when you think about that dent in your forehead could have possibly been on your eye.

About 15 years ago, while working in a gun store, one of my co-workers was showing a customer how to strip a 1911 and launched the plunger into the customers forehead. Good times.

I put a pretty stiff Wolf spring into my Glock and launched it across the room where it struck my girlfriend's Martin D28 guitar.

I wasn't permitted to field strip my weapons in the living room after that.

It's usually cased, every now and then after she plays, she leaves it on one of those guitar stands for a bit.

Bad timing on that spring getaway. It left a mark too. Little half moon dent.

Are you using a GI plug or the stock FLGR guide plug? For the GI, I generally don't have a prob. With the stock plug, I use the wrench to push it all the way.
