the only magnum research pistol that you can buy new in CA is the Desert Eagle in 44 Mag.

that of course is unless you are exempt from the roster

That's possibly one of the ugliest rollmarks ever.

Yeah another roster tragedy, although what advantage does going for their 1911 have over other? Other than the official mall ninja trademark.

Cast frame with a MSRP of $799. Looks like you get a beavertail (which doesn't match the frame color), a skeletonized trigger/hammer and "tight" fit.

$799 MSRP? Not a bad deal if the barrel is fitted properly for accuracy. Definitely give Kimber a run for their money.

I'd probably put it on par with a springfield GI spec. A 550-650 gun. Not quite up to a kimber although it does have some nice stock features.
Local shops to me (in washington) are selling for $700 + tax.

Cast frame is something I don't really like, but to be expected at that price. Novak sights are dotless, but they are easily replaced with higher quality ones. I haven't looked at the inside of one but I've heard that most of the internals are MIM and if you want a high quality 1911 would end up being replaced.

Magnum Research Inc is just the importer, BUL is the actual manufacturer.

Charles Daley first imported the BUL 1911.
Charles Daley then took over importation of the Jericho 941 from Magnum Research Inc.

The Magnum Research Inc Desert Eagle 1911 is not on the approved list and can not be placed on the approved list, unless a CA DOJ approved chamber load indicator & a magazine disconnect are added to the pistol.

I've always been leery about cast frames but many, many succesful pistols use them. My DW CBOB has a cast frame and it's a work of art for the price. I've seen Colt forged frame 1911's crack with a high round count also.

If you go to Buls website you will see they make very nice pistols, some race guns. They also partnered up with kimber early on with polymer double stack polymer 1911's. I have a Bul Impact pistol which is a cz clone. It is very accurate and has a very good trigger. Here's some of their polymer 1911's. http://bultransmark.net/BULM5.htm Mark
