HI, so I would like to add a 1911 in 10mm or 40 cal. to my collection. I have done a little research on this subject myself but would like to here others opinion. I have seen guys at three gun events with the 40 cal. conversions and i think if not mistaken their mags held 20 rounds? Does anyone know how many rounds the 10mm highcap mags hold? I have a glock 20 in 10mm and I really am starting to like that round, so I am leaning towards that but not opposed to the 40cal its good in its own right. Would love to hear some insight from people who own one of these. Thanks

It will be the same if you use the same frame and magazines those 3 gun guys are using. You can buy a STI Edge in 40 S&W and you can get a gunsmith to install a 10mm barrel, change recoil spring weight to about 4 lbs heavier depending how real your 10mm ammo is, and if your mags don't have the spacers you can shoot 10mm right away. You can also just get that 40 S&W chamber reamed to 10mm. The difference between the 10mm and the 40 is like 357 mag and the 38 spl. The dimensions are all the same except for the case length and primer size. You can use 10mm dies to load 40 S&W.The wise man said just find your place

I am waiting on my Wilson CQB 10mm with a 40 cal barrel conversion. I prefer the 1911 to the Glock, but I have been to a Glock Armorer school and will say they are well built. Just not my cup of tea. If you like the 1911's you can find one on here every once in a while. I have seen Dan Wesson, Kimber, and STI on here. Just gotta keep an eye out and have some cash set aside! Good luck with the search.Comment

Colt Delta
I've had a Colt Delta Gold Cup for about 10 years, and it has worked perfectly for me. It has been reliable and accurate, with a great trigger feel. Finding ammo can be an effort, of course, but I like the caliber better than .45 ACP. I just wish it were cheaper and more readily available.

From what I have read the 1911 platform gets beat-up with full power 10mm loads. I shot chickenfried's Kimber with Double Tap ammo and it was not too much to handle. If you are looking for a single stack 10mm the Smith & Wesson is a great choice. Accurate enough and built like a tank. The trigger is not nearly as good as the Kimber but it is lots of fun to shoot. Here is a decent target shot at 15 yards with my handloads (180g. bullet at 1300fps)

If you are interested in trying it PM me. I go to USI in Concord most Sundays. SammyComment
