Sig SRT Trigger - Is it worth it?

    Hi All,

I just wanted to see what you guys thought about the Sig SRT (Short Reset Trigger). Is it worth the $150?

I have a Sig P226 in .40S&W, looking for a Sig P229r to add to my collection, heard about the SRT, but don't know too much about it.

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks!

Best bet is see if someone local has it so you can try it. I love mine.

If you're able to fully disassemble your Sig, it'd be better to buy the two parts and put it in yourself, or see if someone local can install it for you.

There's an online parts vendor that sells the part and I'm sure someone here will link it. I got mine from elsewhere and installed it myself.

Does the SRT system keep it double than single action after the first shot and simply just shortens the trigger reset?? Sounds like something I should consider for my 239.

It's a great upgrade. I managed to score parts here on Calguns for my 220 and did it myself for $100. After the expedited shipping that Sig requires, you're looking at about $200 to have them do it.

Just shortens the reset. Not as short as a Glock but a HUGE improvement over factory. If I were to do it all over again, I wouldn't want a Sig without the SRT parts.

Its a preference thing. Majority of the people who have had it seemed to like it. I think the majority of the people who do have it, don't need it. Not trying to knock on anyone. So you should definitely try to find someone or somewhere that has a Sig you can try it out. The initial double-action has more of a "crunchy" feel for it. Many don't like that. Also from what I've read, you're better off getting the QRT from a member on Sigforum or Bruce Grey's version of the SRT.

just shortens the reset. You fire the shot (either single or double action) and let the trigger out a smidge (like literally - that much) and you're set to pull the trigger again.

I have SRT installed in some of my SIG. Place I work for (On Target) also got some SRT kits in for the P220/226/228/229 series. It's an interesting animal, but does take some getting used to. Generally, it would take about 1/2 lb off the SA trigger and at least 60% improvement on reset distance based on my experience. We also got certified SIG armorers to install it on-site for you.

Unless you really fancy the quick 2nd shot capability and plan to engage in IDPA/IPSC competition where this feature would make some difference, otherwise just for target shooting SRT is not necessary IMO. I will not be in this coming Sunday (9/5/10), but if you are not in a hurry I will be there on 9/12 and I can bring my SIG with SRT for you to try (P226 and P228 9mm or P220 Elite, your choice).

I never had that crunchy initial feel. But I also cleaned up the parts before it went in the pistol. Some guys went from pistols that had fired thousands of round and put a new part in. Yeah, it's going to be a bit rough. Installed, and dry fired like crazy and it feels good.

SRT (over the other options) is nice that it's factory, and some agencies will allow duty carry on it (doubting that would be a reason for the OP though). I would love to have sent my stuff to Gray Guns, but for the pricing and availability that I can get parts direct from Sig, I won't complain.

As for the QRT, the member doing those modifications left a foul taste in my mouth on Sigforum based upon his attitude and actions there.

Oh, and if you own multiple sigs, and decide to go the SRT route, be sure to do it to all of them. I was shooting my friend's non-srt 220, and well, was short stroking badly cause I'm used to the SRT. He's now upgraded all his sigs to SRT's.

Yup, cleaning up the action will definitely help in getting rid of or minimizing the "crunchiness"

As far as the QRT, I was just going based on recommendations.. so are you talking about GerryG? http://www.totalautomation.us/sigcorner.htm
What happened? Just curious cause I want to know if I should avoid the person as well if I decide on getting a trigger job.

I might consider it in the future on my SP2022, but we'll see. As it stands now, I fall more into the group that I think doesn't really need an SRT. I simply don't have my follow-up targets acquired faster than my finger resets.

Oooh...that might get expensive for me. I think I'll spend that money on ammo for more practice.

SP2022 uses different parts, I don't think SRT works in those gun, or if it was even developed.

thanks! I was just @ On Target last Thurs, I prob won't make it back in for a few weeks, can't afford to goto the range too often with 3 kids under 5 yrs old! I'd love to try your Sig with the SRT.

How much do you/On Target charge to install the SRT on a Sig P226 .40s&w?

                          Thanks!

I just sent my sig 220 (80's gun) back as it wasn't extracting/ejecting properly...

had the srt and night sights put on... did it on their LEO program...but yeah..the srt is nice...

but I'm a bit odd about guns and carry a high end 1911 as my off duty gun..
