1911???

i want to buy a 1911 to build....is there different 1911's or are they like ar15 builds??? what would be different between a colt or a springfield GI...i have a remington rand but don't wanna put new parts on it....what is the best way to go?

buy spring field loaded package has every thing you might want on it you can order it from
sodak in north dakota and have ffl dealer dros it for you should be about 100.00. about
65.00 plus 35.00 dros total 100.00, you save on tax , its best deal around plus you have a name
brand 1911 that will hold the value better and for some reason i would not get s steel they
are harder to sell for some reason and don't hold there value . good luck , oh yeah cal gunner just sold loaded package use for 850.00 look it up

I have two SA Loaded models and am actually using one for a build. I was going to start with a GI model, but it was actually cheaper to buy the Loaded since several of the things I was going to pay a gunsmith to do were already done. Since the Loaded was my base for the build, I was able to do more mods with my gunsmith for the same money.

gun broker has use loaded package 750.00 not a bad price . make sure its current model . older loaded package do not have all
the feature as the new ones.

There are some things you can do yourself, but many modifications should be done by a good gunsmith.

Normally I'd say use a SA Mil Spec for a base for your build, but maybe going the loaded route isn't a bad idea. Having a smith mod a 1911 can get pricey depending on the mods you want so why not have some of them factory installed.

If it were me I'd probably try and get my hands on one of the new Colt Series 70 clones, but that's because I'm a dumb@$$ and willing to spend too much $$$ to get my ideal 1911.

Another avenue to consider is finding a Norinco 1911 for cheap. Yeah they're evil Chinese knockoff 1911s, but from what I've heard they make them out of very good/hard steel. Just something to consider.

I agree. Or an even older, original one. If you're going to customize a 1911, a lot of smiths only want to work on Colts or Springfields, the more plain the better. Additionally, if you're going to spend the money, time and energy to customize a 1911, you probably want to do it right the first time.

The frame on the Smith would be ok but the external extractor on the slide kind of sucks. Before you buy a loaded SA make sure what you are paying for is what you want.

SA's are great guns but I don't care for the beaver tail or their ambi safety's. I don't like the safety because of the sharp end on the bottom of it. After a day of presentations it rubs my thumb raw. It doesn't feel to me you can get quite as high a grip with the stock SA beaver tail. It doesn't matter me but some people don't like the 2 piece barrel in SA's.

i bought a used RIA tactical that im modifying. its at the gunsmiths now having a slide and barrel "match" fitted in, so im just waiting to see what the end results are.
